It had been nearly a year and a half since Belos had been dethroned by you, your younger sister Luz, and the friends you had made in this strange world. And it has been a year and half since you and Hunter had begun your relationship romantically, and you two couldn't be happier.
For your year and six months anniversary, you and Hunter had planned to visit your realm for the day, away from the responsibilities of putting the Isles government system together.
You and Hunter quickly packed a bag, and said goodbye to the others, walking into the human realm.
Unfortunately for you, but fortunately for Hunter, it was raining when you two stepped through the portal door and out onto the house porch.
You groaned quietly, plopping your bag onto the ground to look for an umbrella in it. "Oh, hold on, I stashed an umbrella around here somewhere..." And while you're looking for it, Hunter just feels inexplicably drawn to the woods — to the rain. He hesitantly reaches out and feels the cool water against his skin, watches it sluice over his hand and drop onto the ground where it disappears into the wetness.
You're still looking for the umbrella, but Hunter steps right out into the rain. He flinches instinctually as the droplets hit him, but instead of the burning sensation he's used to, it's a cool splash that somehow feels welcoming, comforting. He tilts his head back and lets the rain wash over him, soaking through his hair and his jacket, but he can't bring himself to care because the wetness brings with it a feeling of release and contentment Hunter has never experienced.
He feels at ease, as if the rain is washing away all of his troubles.
He doesn't know how long he stands like that, head tilted back and hands open wide to welcome the rain. All he knows is the comfortable solitude that settles over him, the chill that runs bone deep but against all odds feels like a welcoming embrace.
"Is it true that rain doesn't boil in the human realm?"
Belos turns, smiling softly at Hunter. "It is. You know, I've been there before. Did I ever tell you that?" Hunter shakes his head softly, curiously watching the man he called his uncle, like a little boy who just found the most interesting toy in the world. "The trees there are green, the nights are quiet... I look forward to seeing it again. Were you spying on me just to hear these boring stories?"
He feels a presence at his side and finally opens his eyes to see you smiling gently at him from beneath the umbrella. You offer it to Hunter and he takes one last longing glance at the gray sky before ducking underneath.
He glanced around at the forest, the trees were green. But this world felt loud, so loud. But Hunter liked it. Something was going on everywhere and everything was new and exciting, and he's glad he gets to experience it with you.
You're both silent as you make your way to your home, arms linked loosely as you two enjoy the soundtrack of the rain plinking against the vinyl and splashing on the ground at your feet.
When you arrive, Camila is waiting with warm towels and hot drinks. You squeeze Hunter's hand and rush to your mom. You pull him inside before she can fuss at you for leaving Hunter in the rain.
Once he's alone, Hunter tilts his head to the sky again. As he lets the precipitation wash over him, he understands why humans romanticize the rain.
