~Last time on Detached~ Avery and Luna were having a sleepover and while talking about their boyfriends Avery told Luna just who her boyfriend was. Danny was Avery's boyfriend until he told her that he was a pimp and drug dealer. Luna was shocked, but didn't telll Avery what had conspiered against the both of them only weeks ago. Later on in the week Luna had walked into her math class and noticed that Cole hadn't given her any attention, she soon found out that Cole had been beaten badly by his father. Then lastly Kevin told both Luna and Cole that he knew of Rosemary's pregnancy.
Happy reading!!
Chapter 39
After the final bell rang for school to be over I sighed, thankfully not everybody was aware of the incident. Turns out Kevin was the only one who knew, besides Avery but she wouldn’t tell anybody. For once I was happy I kept my circle really small, well I guess only having one person for a friend would really just make my circle into a dot, now wouldn’t it? It didn’t matter to me either way, but it seems like all those years of keeping to myself paid off in the long run. Plus high school wasn’t even over with yet, I still had another freaking year left. You know, unless I quit now, which would be highly unexceptable, according to Cole seeing as I ran that little thought of mine by him as a joke and got a tongue lashing for it. Never. Again...He was so serious about education it was creepy, but then again seeing where he’s at with his father I would be too. Actually I should be, considering my situation with my mother...
But that would take effort, effort that I don’t have by the way, I’m a lazy bum, a bump on a log. Some people may say that I only need a push, something to help me jumpstart the smart girl inside of me but that person, is wrong. I’m fully aware of where I am academically and the C’s and D’s show that for themselves, I’ve made my choices when it comes to learning new things, if it isn’t interesting then I don’t bother with it. History? Nope. English? I speak it so what’s the point in learning it, right? Math? Hahaha, you got jokes...But education is an important thing, don’t get me wrong. With how much Cole talks about it, it must be. He’s planning on going to college and getting degrees in all these things, making as much money as he wants. He doesn’t want to get stuck with ‘barely getting by’ he wants to be able to provide, and honestly I could see that. He’s smart and knows that he’s even smarter than he knows himself to be. Confidence in yourself is one hell of a playing card, I love hearing that tone in his voice.
What I didn’t hear though, was him talking to me. ”Luna? Did you hear me or were you spacing out again?” I shook my head then he continued, “surrrre, so do you want me to drive you home? Because I’m sure your bus is going to be leaving in a few minutes, and I don’t think you can make it.”
I shrugged. “I think I’ll be fine, you should get some rest because you seem really worn out.” His hair was shaggy and he had little bags under his eyes.
That statement didn’t seem to sit well with him though, his body tensed up and his eyes narrowed slightly. “I’m fine, I don’t need rest right now, so let me take you home. Your bus is leaving anyway.” I watched the busses leave as Cole went to the passenger's side of the car, opening it he said. “Get in.”
