Chapter 10
All through the day I found myself touching that spot over and over again. It kept reminding me of the night before. The way he gripped my hands so firmly, the way his body heat roamed over my body as he pressed himself against me... I shook my head and frowned I wasn’t going to think about that now. I had a huge test in a few weeks and I had to get this stupid subject down.
I stared at the paper as I racked my brain for answers, I started paying more attention in class after Seth taught me a few things. It started making more sense but then again I still had the doubt that Shannan continuously gave me through words. They seemed to loom over me and weigh me down, even though it was only while she was drunk that didn’t mean that the words didn’t hurt.
I started to tighten then loosen the scarf that I had wrapped around my neck before school. The soft fabric seemed to irritate the hickey but I ignored it. It was then that I finally figured out the answer, or how to get to it anyways. I started to scribble down on the paper, writing out my thoughts and coming up with solutions. I was halfway done but I wanted to make sure I did it right. I looked up and around the silent classroom, everybody was doing their own thing while Cole sat back playing some game on this phone that looked like it involved candy. Honestly I didn’t feel like asking him for help but I knew he wasn’t a bad guy.
I grabbed his attention by tapping on his shoulder, I pursed my lips together and looked up at him. “Hey do you think you can check these answers for me, I’m not done yet but I want to know if I did it right.” I passed him the paper.
As soon as I did I regretted it, he pulled out a big pink erasers, you know the ones for big mistakes. He started attacking the paper with that thing and I started to feel stupid.... I always knew math wasn’t my subject but dang. He then started to close the distance between us by scooting his chair over so we were side by side. As if this wasn’t a big deal he placed the paper in the middle of us and started to talk. “Alright this is what you did wrong.” After that sentence everything else made very little since.
I tried to understand was he was saying but there was so much vocabulary that was not comprehending with my brain. I slowly pulled the paper away from him. “Yeah... I’ll just try this later.” I said quietly, I wasn’t going to be doing this later...
He sat back in his chair and raised an eyebrow at me. “Yeah, no you won’t.” Then he smiled. “You’ll just procrastinate and then you won’t get anything done.”
What the heck?! I rolled my eyes. “Whatever, I just wanted to know if I did it right or not but I guess I’ll try again.”
He pulled the paper back his way, the sound of it sliding across the desks make me look up in confusion. “You know you could ask for a tutor.”
I bit my lip. “Well I had one, but I don’t know what happened to him, it’s like he disappeared.” Now that I thought about it I haven’t seen him around school at all, I wonder what’s going on with that.
“Why not ask me?” Cole asked looking thoughtful.
I arched an eyebrow. “Is that just an excuse to come back to my house?” I smirked, relaxing in my chair.
His face was ridden with confusion. “No..” Shot down, “I just want you to pass this class.”
It was my turn to look confused. “Why do you care so much?”
He thought on it for a couple seconds, rubbing the back of his head he smiled. “I’ll just say that we have a lot of similarities.”
My brow furrowed, how were we similar? “What are you talking about?” I questioned him as he stood up from his desk. He moved it back to where it was in the first place.
