Chapter 4
All I kept thinking was. He lied to me about not having any other family. After all this time I really thought he understood me, since he was an only child. Well I at least thought he was an only child until now. He was the one I turned to for advice and to tell my problems to, sure I sound like I’m obsess with him, but I’m not. I just looked up to him.
It’s safe to say that we didn’t have dinner last week and not only did that happen, but I lost him. Luca walked out that night. I can’t blame him though. I would have done the same thing. But I had to do it, if I didn’t he would have led an unhappy life with me. It was all part of my plan.
Flash back to dinner
We were left in silence with that being said. Half- brothers, but how? Alright dumb question, but you would ask to if you were in my position.
“Before we explain, I just want to know what you mean by ‘I won’t be welcome by the company’.” Keagan asked. I just looked at him and then turned to Tyler.
“So explain,” it was easier this way because Tyler was an honest telling truth kind of guy and I wasn’t ready to tell anyone about my position in the company.
“My mother and his dad use to be high school sweet hearts until she found she was pregnant with me. He wanted nothing to do with me and my mom, so he ignored her and filed a restraining order against her because he thought she would try and do something. Like hell she would. He was a rich teenage bastard and apparently sixteen was too young to man up for responsibilities. So long story short I found my dad and decided to tell him that he has a grandchild and that’s when I met them. Sure I met them before, but how was I to know that we shared the same biological father.”
“So, how long have you known that you were two were brothers?”
“I didn’t find out until after that so called going away party,” Tyler put his head down and rubbed his forehead as if he had a headache, “so about five or six years maybe. It was before Nora was born that I decided to look for him.”
“And I’m assuming it didn’t go all too well, did it?”
He shook his head ‘no’ and the rest were looking at us. Tyler’ head was still down, but looked up at me, “just out of curiosity, what did you mean when said that to Keagan?” thanks a lot take attention of you guys and put it on me.
“About that, you see,” I felt everyone’s eyes on me I gathered whatever courage I had and decided to tell them. Though I only wanted to tell my family and not the others, but most importantly I had to tell Luca and set my plan in action now.
“You know the retirement party, where my boss was suppose to announce his successor,” I saw the guys nod their heads, “reason why he didn’t was because I am the successor of the company. I wasn’t ready to announce it until I told you,” I looked at Luca. I saw shocked in his eyes and hurt.
“How long have you known about it?” his voice cracked half way through, though he was trying to sound strong and not hurt I didn’t tell him.
Come on Zeke it’s the only way, this way he won’t have to get hurt and eventually leave while it’s too late, “Eight months.”
“E-ei-eight months,” I already knew he was hurt, but I didn’t expect what happens next, “you bastard. You’ve known eight months and you weren’t going to even attempt to tell me about it. I trusted you with my deepest secrets and my trust. I thought the feeling was mutual, I guess it’s not.”
“I guess it’s not,” It pained me to even say those words, but I had to. Luca’s hand went across my left side of my face. I deserve it.
“I loved you and I guess you never deserved to be loved in the first place,” he was saying every word with venom and trying to hurt me. Little does he know I’m already hurting, first going the cowards way out just to break up with him, second would be having Stryker watch this go down.
“You may be right at least now you have out of this relationship,” Luca looked at me with wide eyes, “if you don’t think I know. I do. I know how you’ve been sneaking around with Liam thinking I didn’t know. Not only that, but the fact that you trying to replace him with me in his place. Never did love me, you settled for me.”
“How did you find out?”
“That doesn’t matter, “I couldn’t stand the looks I was receiving, so I walked towards the door before leaving, “you may finish the dinner it’s your choice.” And I walked out.
Back to present time.
When I got back everyone was gone along with the food. As for where I went I walked around the city. I had to clear my head. My life was spiralling out of control. Not only did my old friends come back into my life, I lost a friend. We both hurt each other without even knowing it. Well I knew I had to because I already knew he loved my stepbrother. I wonder if he knows Liam is my stepbrother or not.
I guess I’ll never know. My cell phone rang. I looked at the caller id and saw that it was Mr. Reagan.
“Hello Mr. Reagan”
“Zeke my boy how did you know it was me, oh never mind, stupid caller id thingy.” He chuckled over the phone, “the reason I’m calling is because I wanted you and your cousin to come have dinner at my home. I also want you to meet another potential client for the company from Japan. I would have dealt with it, but he was very persistent that it was you and he wanted to meet your cousin. So how about it?” leave it this man to get straight to the point. I wish I could be more like him.
“I would love to sir. I’ll just have to ask my cousin if he’ll join and when shall we be there,” I spoke into the cell phone.
“Tonight at 6:30 and its formal we mustn’t have a bad first impression.”
“Ok I’ll be there.”
“Lovely see you then, bye,” he hung up before I could have chance to say bye back.
I guess my night of worrying is over. I’ll just have to wait for Cloud t o get home from class.
