Mia could not contain her rage anymore. She stormed in the room, leaving the door swinging behind her as Brooke hurriedly followed her footsteps.
Mia was now burning with anger, and it was reflected by her dirty, uncombed hair, swollen, red face from crying, her skirt was wrinkled and it seemed like she hadn't slept for days. She addressed her step-father in a harsh tone, as her blood-shot eyes scanned him several times. Brooke, watching all of this started to feel like Mia could see through her dad.
'Did I ask you to feed him?'----Mia spoke for the first time since she got home.
Her mother, barging into the kitchen tried to defend her husband but it was too late.
Mia, letting the beast inside her take over, continued, 'Since the very day you stepped in this house I've hated you more than anyone in my life, but still I tolerated you. Your rude behavior, trying to control and manipulate me, trying to prove that I'm a spoilt brat, your grumpy old friends who have never known any manners, the insults you throw at me without even thinking twice, your never ending poker games every weekend, for which I can't even be in my room upstairs for the intolerable noise you and your fat friends make, your trying to sneak into my room without my permission and trying to read my diary, your oily mouth, that ruined my relationship with my boyfriend, your cursing my best friend for absolutely no reason, I've been putting up with all of that since the very day you walked in this house that you claim to be only yours, which is actually my father's, but killing Cherry? It is too much. You try and ruin my freedom in all possible ways, by manipulating my mother who used to be such a nice, sensible lady before she met a monster like you. Ever since you came none of my birthdays have been good. But I thought you couldn't stoop this low just to prove you are all good and I don't deserve a life. I hate you and everyone who chooses to be within five meters of radius from you.
And I mean everyone.
Her mother, Jennifer was confused and didn't know what to say or whose side to stay on.
Mia used to feed and then pat or cuddle Cherry before leaving for school. Cherry was a really cute little, furry Labrador. It was as white as milk with shiny innocent beady eyes, black as coal, and a nose, just the shape of a walnut. Cherry had a long, bushy tail and was only three when it died. Mia and her father found him curled in a box beside a lamp-post when it was just a little puppy on a very cold night that looked at Mia who was only twelve back then, with its tiny eyes that were sparkling with hope.
Mia and her father immediately decided to adopt it to give it warm meal, shelter and a family.
After Mia's father died, her mother married a new man whom she met in a fair and soon her character started to change as Mia grew into a fine adolescent. Mia never liked her mother's new husband, and therefore bedsides her best friend, Cherry became her only company in her good and bad times. Cherry never got along with Gabe, Mia's step-father.
As Cherry grew up, it came closer to Mia's heart. When Mia went off to school, or somewhere he couldn't accompany her, as a good-bye, it wagged its tail and licked Mia's face with its crimson tongue.
Brooke tried to calm Mia who was shaking with rage by now. Gabe had apparently fed Cherry something in the morning when Mia went out for school.
Mia was too young and helpless to plan revenge against Gabe, so she could only curse him under breath or on his face and cry in a corner with just Brooke by her side. She had neither her father nor Cherry to be on her side anymore.
Gabe on the other hand looked hardly affected by Cherry's death and chose to keep quiet, not even justify his foolish and cruel deed.
The clock hands kept running as Mia found herself more and more helpless every second. So she just flung the door that had nothing to do with little Cherry's death, and dashed out of the kitchen, as her tears raced down her cheeks, she wiped them with her small palm but they just overflowed in every sense.
As she kept walking, aimlessly without a proper destination in her mind the sun was escaping the sky, leaving behind its orange color that covered the entire sky, as birds delightedly soared high in the air and flew homewards, after a long day of chirping on the branches of trees across it.
When her legs finally stopped walking and Mia looked up, she found herself near that old try again that had sprung up mysteriously without informing Mia.
She somehow thought it was the only place on the Earth right then, where she could find some peace of mind.
She sat down on the ground, and tilted her head back and looked up with wide open eyes and stared at the sky as dusk was turning it pale blue and the stars began to be visible again. She saw the moon separating itself from white fluffy clouds and illuminated the sky around it, as it glowed with more light, and seconds kept passing silently, the clock kept ticking. Guess it wasn't affected by the helplessness of the situation, so it didn't bother waiting for Mia.
