Chapter 7: Who the hell is Laurel?

Assassin liar looks in the review mirror at Assassin asshole. The next thing I know I'm pulled out of my seat and into the back with assassin asshole.

"What the hell!" I yell, I kick and punch at him, but my efforts are useless. Both of his hands were occupied at keeping mine down. "What going to rape me now? You damn asshole assas-."

I was cut off when his lips were on mine. I felt a heartbeat against my own thump. I could feel the anger and adrenaline rush through me. What in the actual fuck! He lifts his face away from mine. He looks down at me with a gaze I thought I'd never see.

Well you just pissed me off. I head butt him and he moves away. I hold my forehead and sit up, I pull the handle but it's on child lock. I look at assassin liar. He was paying attention to the road.

I climb over to the passenger seat and open the door. I felt a hand grab me. I turn to see assassin liar looking worried and scared. A car pulls up next to ours, their window opens showing men with scary grins on their faces. I hear the sound of a gun shoot and our car swerves but then steadily speeds up.

"Ryder!" Assassin liar yells. Assassin asshole opens his window a little bit and starts shooting back at them. So...maybe there names are that... Assassin liar pulls me in. "Close the door." He says steely and you don't have to tell my twice. I close the door.

"What's going on here?" I yell. I can't take any more of this. My head throbbed from the head butt I gave to Ryder earlier.

"Remember what Boss said the other night, and tonight. It's either join or be killed. Well they're the mafia and they want to kill you. If you didn't join then we wouldn't be here to help you." Ryder says.

"I didn't join though! I don't want any of this!"

"You did. You told her you would join if she answered one question and she did." Ryder says focusing on shooting the enemy right now. I groan.

"Hold on!" Zach yells and I realize I didn't have my seatbelt on. I brace myself but hit the dashboard. "Dani!" Zach yells and I feel something warm and gooey go down my face. "Ryder grab her." I feel myself being lifted and pulled against something warm behind me. I let the darkness take me.

"Is she alright?" It was Ryder's voice, I knew it.

"This child...is dwindling my patience." A woman's voice, one I heard several times before.

"She already accepted, I don't see why -."

"Ryder, I only have precious time, she only has precious time. We need her to defend herself, do missions and reunite with her parents."

"Why do you want them to be together?"

"It was my father's last wish. Now, when she wakes up, hopefully soon, I want you to take her to Laurel. She'll train her. I want you to steer clear of her, Ryder."

Eyelids...lift...I want to see...who this. My eyes flutter open to see only Ryder in the room.

"Who was that just now?" I ask sounding weak. His features soften, he looks back over his shoulder after a moment he looks at me, and he moves the hair out of my face.

"You need your strength, go back to sleep." His face looks pained.

"Ryder -." I didn't get to finish as I drifted off to sleep.

When I woke up again, Zach was in the room. His back was to me.

"So you are one of them?" He turns his face full of emotions.

"Dani, I wanted to tell you but assassins are sworn to secrecy. I was here to protect you; it was your mother's and father's wish." He let out a sigh and he takes a step forward, closer to me.

"Don't. Don't come near me."

"Dani... I'm still the same Zach Levine." Zach says, both his hands up as he takes another step forward.

"No. The Zach Levine I knew was a dork, kind, always told me everything, been with me since nine years ago. You, this Zach Levine... I don't know you." I say as cruel as possible. I hear him sigh and look up at him.

"Well I hate to break it to you sourpuss but, I'm the same Zach Levine you know and you are also one of us now." Zach says, he gives me one last look and leaves for the door. He turns the knob and opens it. I see Ryder on the other side. They nod at each other, tension flying through the air right now. Zach walks past him and Ryder walks into the room.

"Get dressed," he tosses something at me, "you have an appointment with Laurel." My eyebrows furrow. Who the hell is Laurel?
