ELEVEN (MIDNIGHT)

CHAPTER ELEVEN

(At home, Clara was in her room reading for her Waec exam that she has tomorrow, Alvin walks in)

Knock! Knock!! Knock!!!

Clara: Yes, who is there?

Alvin: Is me, Alvin.

(She walks toward the door and opens it)

Clara: Good evening sir Alvin.

Alvin: What are you doing?

Clara: I am reading my books. I have a Chemistry exam tomorrow.

Alvin: Ok. No problem. I just came to know if you have changed your mind.

Clara: Please can we do this question and answer section some other time? I have books to read and it is already past midnight.

Alvin: (Very angry) see let me tell you, is like you are taking me for granted, I have been trying to be patient with you and respect you but it looks like you are not ready for that. Let me tell you, I am your boss and right now I want to have you in my room.

Clara: Sir please with all due respect, I can't come to your room now. As you can see, I am busy.

Alvin: Is like you have forgotten your place in this house. Let me remind you in case you have forgotten. You are just an ordinary maid. They are somethings I want you to clean for me in my room.

Clara: Hmm... that thing will have to wait till tomorrow morning, if I am doing my morning duties, I will do it.

Alvin: Is that the way you talk to your boss.

Clara: Alvin please have mercy on me. I am writing my Waec for Christ's sake. Stop tormenting my life this way, please. You are very rich that you can afford any girl you want. Why me?

Alvin: (Talking calmly) the truth is that I genuinely love you. You know that love comes naturally.

Clara: What do you think your sister will do when she finds out about this?

Alvin: And who said that she has to find out?

Clara: You claim to love me but you don't want your sister to find out and I guess you also don't want your mother to find out? So what type of relationship do you want from me?

Alvin: Why are you behaving like a kid?

Clara: Please allow me to read for my exams, I beg you in the name of God.(Alvin walks closer to Clara and tries to rape her but Salome knocks at the door)

Clara: Who is there?

Salome: Is me. (Alvin immediately lets go of Clara. Clara was confused about what to do and how to explain Alvin's presence in her room. She walks to the door and opens it. She was shocked to find Alvin there)

Salome: Alvin, what are you doing here?

Clara: I noticed him going to the bathroom, so I called him to help me with some confusion that I was having with my studies.

Salome: You are calling my brother to help you when I am writing the same exams and we are staying in the same house.

Clara: I thought you have gone to bed and that we are writing the same exam is the more reason why I don't want to either disturb or distract you.

Alvin: So sis, are you trying to say that I can't help her again?

Salome: The same person you called an ordinary maid?

Clara: Dear, you should know me better. You know what I can do. Don't worry yourself, everything is fine, next time I will make sure to call you.

Alvin: I think it's time for me to retire for the night and allow your girls do your thing. And you sis, you can as well call me if and whenever you need my assistance just like she did.

Salome: (Laughing) yes sir...

(Alvin walks out of the room to his room)

Clara: (Frowns) so you don't trust me again?

Salome: Not that I don't trust you, if you were to be in my shoes you would have done the same thing if not worse. (Clara still frowns her face) Ok fine, I am sorry.

Clara: (Smiles) now you have said what I wanted to hear. So what brings you to my room?

Salome: Nothing much, I became tired of reading and decided to come to check on my friend.(They both sat down and continued with their discussion as the light fades...
