There was a guy who asked me if I was still using one of the weight machines after I had gotten off it. I wanted to tell him how much I admire him for showing up every single day at 6a and working hard at the weights until he yells and drops it. I wanted to tell him that I think he's very cool to never give up on himself like that, to always pull through, to always put in the work to grow stronger every day.

But my words caught in my mouth, and I didn't say these things to him. Instead, all I could say was, "No, but thanks for asking." But really the thanks was thank you for being you.

I saw him a couple days later, after my insomnia unraveled my life, walking home from the gym on the street. His eyes met mine, but I turned the corner and looked away. I haven't seen him since.
