It was cold outside District 2. The first person I saw was my mom. "Cato! Wake up. You still have to go to school. Hurry!" She sounds like that as always. My parents were not chosen to play in the games but they are still careers. We fight for our district, even if we know that we will still die. We don't give up.
It was September so the school year begins. I got dressed up quickly and then I hurried downstairs for breakfast. We had bread and cow's cheese. Our mentor even said that we're lucky we get to eat these kind of food. People from the lower districts, however, don't really eat like this. But I don't care. They will just starve to death.
I went out of the house and walked to school. This is what we learned in career training, We should try walking kilometers/miles so that we'll know how to stretch our legs and we'll be more faster in the arena. I arrived at exactly 8:30 AM. There, the place was crowded. Many students were hugging or sometimes talking about career training.
I met my friends and we talked about what happened last summer. Nothing really happened. All we did was train and train. We don't stop. We love to win and we never lose.
But something caught my eye. She was there, standing all alone. I saw her once in career training, maybe that's why she looks so familiar. She looks mysterious. Very mysterious.
I walked towards her and she's staring at me like I was one heck of a demon. "What do you want?" she asked. "Nothing. I saw you once in career training. What's your name again?" I answered. She raised her left eyebrow, " Why would you ask for my name? I don't even know you. " "I just wanna make friends. And I'm Cato." I tried to smile but I think it didn't even work and it made her more upset. She grasped my shirt that makes my faces just inches away from hers, "Cato, huh? Now, why do you want to know my name?" "I-I wanna make allies." She gently lets go of my shirt. "Go." She pushed me. So I started walking away.
"By the way," she said. I suddenly stopped walking.
"It's Clove." I turned my head around and I saw her smile. Her smile was just beautiful. I can't help but smile back.
Clove. What a pretty name.
