It was Sunday afternoon and the girls had just gotten back from a small shopping trip with Elysia's dads and little brother. The closer they got to Halloween, the more excited they both got.

Hannah grumbled softly about how Elysia's dads let her take Halloween off from school and the whole following week. Hannah knew that Elsy could make up the work in a heartbeat, but what she wouldn't give for parents who let her take time off whenever she needed or wanted to.

Aloysias took their bags and spread them out over the table so they could go through and decide what to wear and when. As Alosysias commented on their colour choices and how well they complemented their skin tones, Aldric gave Hannah a wink and promised to convince her parents to at least give her a four-day weekend, before whisking Grae into his arms and strutting out of the kitchen.

"If your dad can do that," Hannah squealed, "He's a miracle worker."

"Oh, he's a miracle worker alright, love," Aloysias chuckled as he pulled his long black hair into a low ponytail, "Now, about these shirts you both picked out..."

"Hannah," he turned to her.

"Yes?"

"You are a Warm Autumn. So, you will definitely look good in soft, warm colours. This dark red, this dark green and this teal that Elysia picked out are phenomenal for you."

"Okay!"

"And Lysie, impeccable as ever. The cream and red you picked out are wonderful. And lucky for you, Hannah picked out this pretty jewel-toned blue to make up for that teal that fits her season better."

He rummaged some more, "You each picked out some nice jeans, those are fine. Now, my turn!"

He reached into the bags he was carrying and pulled out a handful of dresses in each hand.

"Dark red, pink, and orange for you, Hannah. And this grey, pink, and teal for you, Lysie."

"Our dresses match!" Hannah laughed.

Elysia tried her best to keep up her spirits. As excited as she was to go home again after a century, she was nervous as heck. Part of her was hoping that he found her letter. And part of her hoped that he didn't, so she could sneak in at the Coronation and nab it.

"I have good news!" Aldric sang as he waltzed back into the room again, "I convinced your parents to come with us for a four-day weekend to our countryside home. Your father was a little worried, considering you haven't known each other that long, but your mom was like putty."

The two high-fived and jumped up and down squealing.

Aloysias clapped his hands with a flourish, "That's wonderful!"

As they finished a late lunch, Hannah's phone went off. It was Scary.

Can you call?

"I have to go make a call quickly, give me a minute."

A few rings later, "Hannah?"

"Yeah, Scary?"

"I hate to bring this up a few days before the masquerade, but because it is Orson's coronation, the festivities are spread out over several days. Do you think you could convince your pops to give you a few days off after?"

"Well, actually," Hannah whispered, looking over at the family at the table, "I have Halloween off and the three days after."

"Perfect!" the witch cackled, "Make sure you pack accordingly. In between festivities you can wear what you like, but there are things you will need to be dressed for accordingly."

'A lot for a coronation. But what did I know? I've never been to a coronation before.'

"Okay, text me the days and what the festivities are, and Elysia and I will rummage up some costumes."

"You got it. Mwah! Bugs and hisses!"

"Bugs and hisses, Scary."

"So," she skipped back into the dining room, "It's a good thing that we have those extra days off! The Masquerade is apparently a four-day party with different festivities. Is that okay?"

Aldric and Aloysias exchanged glances that she couldn't quite understand.

"Is that okay?"

"It's wonderful!" Aldric boomed, "If it gets too boring, we can always escape to Briar House."

Buzz.

Hannah looked.

Schedule:

Halloween: After dark, Coronation starts. Then dance and then a feast. Expect to be up very late - Very fancy gown.

November 1st: Victorian dress for breakfast at 7 pm, midnight tea, and then gowns for dinner.

November 2nd: Free night, save for dinner. Gowns are requested but not required.

November 3rd: Gowns and dresses all night. There is an open carriage ride to the town center in the early evening for Orson to greet his people. Then there will be informal midnight lunches with the families and a banquet later at night to officially end the festivities.

"So, I'm not sure what this all means," Hannah murmured, handing her phone to Elysia who scanned it quickly.

"So, the masquerade must be a lavish gown. The next day we'll need morning dresses, afternoon dresses, and evening gowns. The next day, a gown for dinner. And on the last day, another lavish gown."

"Do we have time to get all of these?" The brunette choked back tears.

Hannah was terrified of not having the right clothes. She didn't want to mess up Orson's big weekend. How would it look if she, the proclaimed best friend of the future King of the Night, couldn't even bother to look presentable?

"Honey, it's okay," Aloysias soothed, his voice warming her to her bones, causing her to shudder.

"I have plenty of gowns. All types. Go home for the day and get ready for school, and I'll put it all together," Elysia gave a reassuring smile, "You can come over tomorrow and look at them. Papa will adjust them if necessary."

"Are you sure?" she wiped her tears away.

"Of course, Love."
