"You're sure that this isn't a trap." My boss repeated for the third time as he paced behind his desk. His brows were furrowed, and his lips were pulled into a deep frown as his gaze dropped to mine. Leaning back in my chair, I shook my head.

"I've had my eye on Roman for nearly as long as Isabella. He's in the same predicament as her." I explained once again, as he gripped the back of his empty desk chair. I could see the war in his eyes as he dwelled over my words.

Letting out a sigh, I pinched the bridge of my nose before leaning forward so that my elbows rested on the mahogany desk.

"I was hesitant too, but my gut is telling me that he's being honest." I slowly said as my eyes drifted over to the wrinkled paper that lay on the desk. Written on it was an address, provided by Roman.

After providing me with more details about the drug heist occurring tonight, I decided it was time to call my boss. If anyone knew how to handle a situation like this, it was the man who had been in the field for decades. The same man who recruited me during the darkest time in my life. The man who assigned me this case, that ended up tilting my life in a direction I wouldn't have ever expected.

I decided to refrain from mentioning anything about mine and Isabella's relationship, because the last thing I wanted was for my boss to think that my judgment was clouded by something else.

Although I can't confidently say that if it weren't for my romantic feelings for Isabella, that I probably wouldn't be here, there's a part of me that knows that eventually, I would have seen through Isabella's facade, and made the discovery at some point. Regardless of how my heart felt towards her.

Roman remained at the office until my boss arrived, and debriefed him as best he could, but it wasn't long before his phone began ringing.

After he had been stabbed, he had disappeared from the warehouse with the excuse that he was going to his house for a quick change of clothes. It wasn't long before Rick's men began noticing his absence, thus resulting in his phone constantly ringing with calls and messages.

Roman wasn't able to go too much into depth about everything, but provided us with as much information as he could before he headed back to the warehouse. I had offered to give him a ride, but he declined, stating that it would be better if he took an uber to the warehouse to avoid my car being recognized by anyone at the warehouse.

My boss didn't say anything, as he took a seat back behind his desk. Picking up the manila folder, he pulled the contents out. I watched as he scanned the papers in the file repredadtly before he let out a sigh and dropped them onto the desk.

Hie clasped his hands together before pulling his gaze up towards mine. Conflict swirled through his eyes as he pulled his lips into a thin line. I held back any questions as I watched him reach into the drawer beside his desk before pulling out another folder.

"Look son, I didn't want to tell you this at the time that we assigned you this case, because I didn't deem it as relevant information, but I think it's something you should know now.

I could feel my stomach tightening at his words, as I braced myself for what he would say next.

"Isabella had been there the night of Nick's death. She was the driver of the car." He said in a gentle tone as he pushed the folder towards me. I didn't make any move to grab it, and simply kept my gaze forward as his words registered in my mind.
