It was the first day of summer and everyday was getting hotter by the second. It was 12 pm and usually I was at the coffee shop by now, drinking a chocolate chip mocha frappé and reading my book. But I slept in, my mom usually wakes me up but she probably left for work already. I went into the bathroom and started to get ready. I put on my olive green sleeveless top that showed a hint of my belly button piercing with a pair of high waisted bullhead shorts from Pacsun that was laying around.
I didn't know what to do with my hair, it was too long for this hot summer day. I just left it the way it was , I couldn't really do anything with it anyways I just let my platinum blonde dread locks hang. This'll have to do. I ran down the stairs to check out the awful smell.
"Hey, don't run down the stairs you might trip." My dad scolded me.
"Burning the house down again dad?" I asked ignoring his scolding , he's always tried to correct me about running up and down the stairs but my dad couldn't even make breakfast without burning down the house.
"This stupid toaster won't work." He irritatedly told me whilst pushing down the button. I walked over to him to help him, examine the toaster.
"Dad it's unplugged." I said plainly wiggling the end of the cord in my hand. I looked at the clock it's 1:19 pm.
"Thanks." He chuckled. I passed him the cord, and he took one good look at me. "Where do you think you're going dressed like that ?" He asked protectively while I put on my black combat boots.
"Dad it's not winter, I'm not going to dress like I live in Antarctica it's the beginning of June in California. And plus I'm 18 not a little kid anymore." I said gathering my stuff.
" Well you know you'll always going to be my little girl no matter how old you get. I'm just worried about you and love you." He assured me.
"Uh huh, love you too dad" and with that I hurried out the door leaving him with a kiss on the cheek trying to escape a lecture.
I barely stepped out my house and it was already really hot I hurriedly hopped in my Beatle turning on the air conditioner. Yes I drive a Beatle so what, it suits someone whose only 5'2 in a half and 119 pounds. Yep that's me. After about 10 minutes I parked into the parking lot of The local coffee shop.
"Hey Blaze wassup?" Joe greeted me. Blaze; in English it means " a flame" or "Daring" and in German it means "Resolute Protector" and I'm not any one of those. I'm more of a caffeine junkie that reads books on a daily, I don't know what my mom was thinking naming me that.
"Hey joe, how's everything running today?" I asked just making small talk.
"Quite as usual." He chuckled.
"Just the way I like it." I gave him a smile
"That'll never change." He assured me. I agree with a nod. "The usual?" He asked taking my order.
"Yes please." I patted the counter and walked away to get settled into the table next to the window, this was my favorite seat I loved sitting by the window. I liked watching the day go by when I wasn't reading but when I was writing. It helped bring ideas to my head when I was writing my poetry. But today I was going to read.
I opened my book, Glimpse by Carlos Lynch Williams. I opened the book to the page I left my book mark at and began to read. I began to get really interested in my book it was like watching a movie.
At the 3 hour mark I was at the last page of the book and I already had 6 frappés and I was going to order another one. And surely I did. Joe came and brought my frappe it was 6:30 pm. Kinda late in the day.
