NUMBER TWO was a fucking dork. He loves superhero comics so much that he wrestled his brother when Ben borrowed one of his books without asking permission. He was so damn ecstatic when Eight and Five managed to get him one of those Batman posters during their trips in town that he actually thanked their cocky Number Five despite it being a slight blow to his pride. Not to mention, he once binged Star Wars with Luther; likely associating with the plight of Luke Skywalker and his evident daddy issues, as Klaus would claim.

Diego Hargreeves was so into their little hero act that he even went as far as to continue them in the future, albeit perhaps in a non-law-abiding way. (But hey, some might say vigilantism is just heroism in a different dress.)

In the same way that he strived to do what a hero would, he gives his all to protect his loved ones. Even if he never really gets the chance to vocalize how much he cares, it's easy to catch it when you see through his actions.

He can be sappy or stupid as fuck; the usual act-before-you-think kind of guy.

To prove the aforementioned statement, when they were kids, he once claims "Guns are for sissies. Real men throw knives."

Later on, when conversing with Klaus, he'll proudly declare, "My body is a temple."

When he reunites with his family in the future, and they are forced to fight against the odds, he'll say as if it only comes naturally for him, "Relax. They won't be a match for us. We go in there as a united front. No more 'Number One, Number Two' bullshit. From now on, it's... Team Zero."

He cares for each and every member of their fucked up family (Reginald Hargreeves aside), just as much as you could see it in the way he took care of their mother.

That said, while Luther had clearly been Dad's pet, Diego, on the other hand, was an incredible Momma's boy.

Eliza Hargreeves, the ninth child, could confirm that for a fact because she can still recall that one talk they had when they were just twelve.

It made her realize how much he truly loved their mother.

They were in the kitchen that day. Although it wasn't so much of a kitchen as it was merely their common room in the basement. It was their safe space, an area for them to hang out without their father's watchful gaze, or so they continually tell themselves in spite of reality.

Number Two and Number Nine helped Grace Hargreeves with their dinner despite their android mother's constant insistence that they didn't have to.
