Phillip started to wake up. So much for that lullaby, John thought.

"Maybe another one..?" John muttered to himself.

"I may not live to see our glory..."

Eliza tapped Alex on the back. "Alexander? There's a letter for you from South Carolina."

Alex turned and smiled, putting a hand on Eliza's shoulder. "It's from John Laurens, I'll read it later." He gave her a quick kiss on the nose.

John squeezed his eyes shut, trying to remember the lyrics and distracting himself from Alexander and Eliza. "But I will gladly join the fight.."

"No," Eliza said sadly, showing Alex the letter. "It's from his father."

Alex raised an eyebrow. "His father?"

"And when our children tell our story," John continued.

Alexander tiredly took a seat in a nearby chair. "Will you read it for me?"

"They'll tell the story of tonight."

"On Tuesday, the 27th, my son was killed in a gunfight against British troops retreating to South Carolina. The war was already over. As you know, John dreamed of emancipating and recruiting 3,000 men for the first all-black military regiment. His dream of freedom of these men dies with him."

Eliza quietly handed the letter to Alex. "I'll give you some alone time."

Phillip sleepily reached his hands out to John, wanting to be picked up.

Forgetting himself for a moment, John reached out to pick Phillip up, whilst singing, "Tomorrow there'll be more of us..."

John suddenly paused, already with Phillip halfway picked up. Something felt... different. Suddenly, John realized.

He could feel his feet, he could smell the room, AND he could pick up Phillip. He must have been changed into a human again! He turned around seeing Alex staring at him. Smiling, he put Phillip down, and started walking again. Correction, he tried to start walking again. The moment he put Phillip down, he turned into an angel again, and he felt his feet start to fade.

John touched Phillip again (making sure not to wake him, since the child was asleep again by then), wanting to talk with his best friend, but even though he could feel Phillip, he wasn't able to turn into a human again.

Alex didn't notice him after John put Phillip down. Instead, he exited the room, muttering, "I must be going crazy..."

John smiled softly at the sleeping child.

"I guess it's just you and me now, huh?"

A/N: I'll try to update this book every two days, keyword is try. School sucks and I have back to school testing stuff soon, on top of cross country tryouts and the fact that I am now sleep deprived lol
