Last sentence of original book (not mine): Behind him, across vast distances of space and time, from the place he had left, he thought he heard music too. But perhaps it was only an echo.

The Giver sighed, lightly closing his eyes, rounding up the abundance of memories he had obtained through the years. Flashbacks of her playing in his mind, spinning round his head like a record . Recalling her sweet face; laughing, crying, all her life. Her calm voice talking to him, calling out for him, it felt as though he was living through it all again, remembering all the bittersweet moments they shared together. Pulling all the thoughts together, until it as squished into a plethora of emotion.

A lone tear slid down his cheekbone, rolling down his paling face and onto his tunic, as he felt the precious memories begin to fade. He desperately wanted to grab them back, to reach out and pull them to his chest, never letting them go. But he knew he couldn't.

"I'll see you again soon, oh darling (yep, a Beatles reference) Rosemary", he whispered.

He knew what had to be done, Jonas' fate wasn't within his control, he had to leave it in the lap of the gods (yes that's a Queen reference too), whilst he did what he had to do.

He let out another quiet tear and watched as it glided smoothly down to the thin metal needle sticking in his arm. He felt the bundle of memories leave his being as his breath creeped slower and slower. His thoughts travelled back and back and back as he began to gradually feel young again. As his breath lessened and his mind drifted further from the present, his heartbeat slowed to a stop.

At last, the memories of the world were released, dispersed out into the community. And the Giver was released too.

I hope you liked this! I know it's crap but whatever. As I said, this is for school but I could really use some feedback before I submit it!
