Just the countryside

chapter 4

Lila's POV

"Where did that come from?" I yelled. As I said this, people were running back to their houses.

"The roof down there are archers" I heard Ellie call.

Ellie shot an arrow and took down an archer. Then men ran out of the alleyway across the street. Lizbeth and I threw off our cloaks and grabbed our weapons.

Amare and Ellie did the same thing and Amare helped bust Ellie up onto the top of a shorter section of the roof. From there she shot at the archers well and we dealt with the ones on the ground.

"Ellie!!" I heard Lizbeth scream in a scared tone. When I look over I see Ellie on the ground and there is an arrow protruding from her shoulder.

"I am... fine" Ellie studered.

"Let's finish this and get out of here," I yelled. As I said this I threw a knife into the last archer's chest and then the men that were left ran off.

I grabbed the knives that I had thrown and then ran over to Ellie. I carefully removed the arrow from her shoulder. Then I grabbed one of the files of my belt and put the contents on the wound before raping it with a bandage.

"We need to get her home so I can treat the wound better," I said. Amare lifted Ellie onto her back then we started walking back to Harper's house. When we got back we walked in and I told Amare to put Ellie on the bed.

"Amare put a cold cloth on Ellie's forehead and Lizbeth came with me to the forest behind the house to grab some herbs," I said.

Twenty minutes later

"I am really fine. It was just a small scrap" Ellie said.

"Just a scrap. What is wrong with you? You were shot in the shoulder. Why are you so stupid!" I said tears starting to come to my eyes.

"Ok I am sorry I will be more careful," Ellie said as she stood up. She grabbed one of the daggers and put it in her boot.

"You say you will be careful then what are you doing," I said.

"Don't worry I am just going out to find Harper and some info on who those men were" Ellie said.

"Oh no you don't" Amare and she grabbed the back of my shirt collar and put me back on the bed and said,??, "you're staying right here for now."

"Fine" Ellie said and she took the dagger out of her boot and threw it at the wall. Then she laid down Amare, Lizbeth, and I left the room and headed to the kitchen.

I walked to the cupboard and grabbed a pot and a spoon. Then put the pot on the counter next to the fireplace and then looked over at Amare.

"Amare, can you get some water from the well for me please," I said.

"Sure thing sis," Amare said.

"Lizbeth, can you grab some wood and get the fire started please?" I asked.

"Sure thing," Lizbeth said. There was a small fire burning by the time Amare got back with the water. I put the water in the large pot over the fire. Then started cutting up some of the vegetables we had just bought. I cut carrots, peppers, chives, and more. Then I slide them into the pot and cut and put the chicken in the pot.

Amare and Lizbeth went to the second out of the two rooms we were staying in since Ellie was finally asleep.

One hour later

I set the table and got some water in a large pitcher. I put a sliced lemon into the pitcher. Then the front door opened as Harper and Lizbeth's mom walked into the house. They were chatting but they stopped as soon as they saw Lila.

"Are you ok? You look like you cried" Harper said.

"Do I. Oh um, I well.." I trailed off. At that very moment, Lizbeth burst into the kitchen with Amare at her heels.

"Mom, your back. Where did you go?" Lizbeth asked.

As Lizbeth asked that I walked out of the room to go get Ellie. I walked down the hall and walked to the room that Ellie was staying in. Then I knocked on the door to the room.

"Ellie, are you awake, dinner is done" I called as I knocked. There was no response, so I walked into the room and found that the bed was made and Ellie was nowhere to be found.

"Amare!" I screamed.

Then Amare, Lizbeth, Happer, and Lizbeth's mom came running down the hall.

"What was that about Lila?" Amare said as they reached the doorway. Then she scanned the room and locked eyes with Lizbeth. A second later we all grabbed our weapons and ran toward the front door.
