Chapter- 10

Shoupe did end up taking you to the hospital while the others were all taken to the police stations to give their statements.

To your shock, the Sheriff didn't leave your side while the nurses examined your jaw which was now badly bruised, and it hurt more than you thought possible.

They told you that your jawbone had been bruised, but that it would be fine and Shoupe paid the bill without hesitation before driving you to the station.

He didn't ask you to make a statement or ask any questions. He just took you to your friends and let the group of you leave. Pope had been in the middle of giving his statement, but Shoupe let you all leave ignoring the annoyed look the Deputy sent him as she closed her notepad and motioned for Pope to leave.

The following days went by in a blur.

Kie and Pope went back to their parents houses while you, Sarah and JJ went back to the shack.

JJ refused to leave your side during those few days and before you knew it, you were all sitting in the courtroom listening as the Judge declared that John B was charged with murder and if convicted, could possibly be faced with the death penalty.

You couldn't really remember much after the judge had announced it. You recalled yelling at Ward outside the courthouse and JJ having to hold you back, but everything else was just a blur.

Your brother might get the death penalty.

Your twin fucking brother might die.

After the court hearing, you all went back to the shack.

JJ ended up storming off though after a heated argument on what to do, declaring that he was going to find his own way to get John B out of prison. Nobody tried to stop him, knowing it was pointless. Kie left shortly after, going to ask her parents for money so John B could have a good lawyer and Pope had gone back to his family's house to see if his father knew anything about this key that Limbrey lady had asked about.

If Pope could get the key, she would give him evidence to put Ward away and free John B. And right now, it was your only chance.

Sarah also left, apparently going to meet her sister, leaving you alone at the shack.

You spent most of the afternoon on the dock, sitting in your brother's boat trying to think of any possible way to free him, but after hours of thinking, you had nothing.

Pope and Kie eventually returned, but were hanging out in the shack. You figured you should go and see them, but you stayed in the boat for a little longer.

You weren't sure when the sun had set, but the sky was now dark and covered in stars as you climbed out the boat and began walking back to the shack when suddenly your phone buzzed from your pocket.

Pulling your phone out, you realised you had a chain of text messages from JJ.

'SOS. 4th and 2nd street'

Shit. What had he gotten himself into?

"Guys!" You shouted, jogging towards the shack as Pope and Kie rushed out the house hearing your voice.

"Wait, have you been here the entire time?" Pope questioned in confusion.

"He found the key. The key that Limbrey wants. Pope found it." Kie quickly said before you had the chance to say anything.

"JJ's in trouble, we need to-" You cut yourself off mid-sentence when you actually processed what she had just said. "Wait, you found the key?"

"Wait, JJ's in trouble?" Kie asked in shock.
