The day of the Adzumi ball had finally arrived. The winter sun shone abnormally bright through Rigel and Y/N's bedroom window.

Y/N groaned in irritation and sat up. They noticed Rigel was awake, reading her book.

Still half asleep, they walked over to Rigel's bed and crawled in next to her. Rigel hummed and wrapped an arm around Y/N. They went back to sleep while she continued to read. Y/N's chest rose up and down, listening to Rigel's heartbeat while also using her to shield them from the bright December sun.

The two friends eventually made their way downstairs a little while later, greeting Alexander and Thomas on the way down. The four had an interesting conversation about their places in the universes all thanks to yet another one of Thomas' existential crises he had the night before.

Y/N's smile soon disappeared, seeing Cadance in the dining room next to Romeo who looked wildly uncomfortable with just how close she was to him. Somehow, Cadance looked perfect despite it being so early in the morning.

"Ate!" Cadance grinned at Rigel who kept a straight face.

"Be warned," Rigel muttered to Alexander and Thomas, "she eats guys like you for breakfast. If she makes a move just ignore her."

Aviana Abaddon looked at her husband to intervene with the girl who was making their youngest son grimace. Y/N saw exactly where Romeo got his good looks from. Aviana was on a whole other plane of beautiful. Her beauty was completely unmatched. It would seem that Romeo had the same eyes and nose as his mother but the same facial shape as his father.

Speaking of which, Everett Abaddon was eating away to his heart's content. Thomas judged his father as he continued to devour the food on the table. Everett was a half blood, one of his parents being a muggle. This was what got Aviana disowned from the Malfoy family, not being allowed to stay in touch with her older brother Lucius after her disownment.

Romeo's face lit up as soon as Y/N took a seat next to him. "Good morning sunflower."

Y/N smiled back and ruffled his hair as a response before digging into the food that Lyra and Analyn had prepared that morning. Y/N made eye contact with Basilio and quickly fixed their posture. They would rather not have the man angry first thing in the morning.

"Y'know Romeo, I'd look great on your arm." Cadance fluttered her eyelashes.

Rigel stabbed her egg in irritation causing both Daniel and Alexander to stifle their snickers with the sharp look given to them by their mother, Aera. Daniel's twin sister Tiffany rolled her eyes and made conversation with Rigel instead.

"Actually he's going with me." Y/N quickly interrupted, Romeo visibly relieved he didn't have to turn down Basilio Adzumi's niece.

"And what happened with you and your little boyfriend then Y/N?" Cadance folded her arms over her chest, the adults continuing with their conversation but Daniel and Alexander insisting on eavesdropping on poor Romeo's dilemma.

"God, that was just a joke I made months ago. Are you friends with Lestrange or something?" Y/N rolled their eyes.

"Didn't seem like an awfully funny joke to Brutus though did it?" Cadance scooped up some rice in her spoon and shoved it in her mouth, a condescending smirk on her beautiful round face.

Y/N went quiet and awkwardly took a drink from their goblet.

"Enough." Basilio set his goblet down as he sat at the head of the table. "Romeo will go with Y/N. You will need to find somebody else Cadance."

"But-!" A look of visible panic on her face that almost made Y/N feel bad for her.

Basilio sent his niece a cold look and she was immediately silenced. Lyra gave her an apologetic smile but Romeo turned to Y/N and quickly gave them a word of thanks, a look of relief residing on his perfect face. Y/N's gaze lingered on him for a bit before catching themselves in the act and snapping out of it.
