Takumi's POV
A day earlier, Takumi is working at his part-time job at First Sight Cafe, where Reina and her best friends Mayu and Nozomi are hanging out after cram school."Hey, Rei-chan?" I heard someone say from the furthest part of the restaurant. "Doesn't the guy at the cash register grab your attention? He's kinda cute, right?"
Wait...
Is she talking about me?!
"What?!" I could see the girl sitting across from the blonde haired girl say, quickly covering her face with her hands out of pure shyness. "I mean, I've talked with Takumi-san a couple of times before but I'm not interested in him that way, 'ya know?"
"Oh, so you know his name, now?" the other girl with blonde hair stated, giving her friend a mischievous grin. "Come on, Rei-chan! Don't you think it's about time that you find yourself a boyfriend?"
"Nozo-chan..."
Now that I think about it, there's been this one girl that's been frequenting this cafe for the past month along with her two best friends.
What was her name again?
Oh, that's right!
Yonashiro Reina!
There's no way that that cute guy they're talking about is me right?
"Well, it's not like I don't want a boyfriend... It's just that I don't have much time for something like that," the girl, whom I had assumed was Reina, stated after taking a sip of her cappuccino.
"Are you sure that's the reason to why you don't want a boyfriend? Or is it about your older overprotective brother?" asked her other friend with jet black hair.
"Umm..."
"So it is! Why can't you just tell him to layoff on preventing you from even being around other boys? I mean, it's bound to happen... You and a boy holding hands or whatever, I mean..."
"I guess so, but I better get home before my parents yell the living crap out of me!" Reina grabbed her bag off of the floor and her coat off the back of her chair. "I'll pay this time!"
"You sure?" her other friend with blonde hair inquired, quick to grab her wallet out of her school bag. "Aren't you always low on cash?"
"Well, this time, my parents were generous enough to give me some money..." Reina and her two friends walked over to where I was at the cash register and, as she said, she would be the one paying for their meal. She gave me the proper amount and the three of them left the café.
As I was helping my co-workers clean the café after business hours, I noticed a pink notebook resting on the floor near where Reina and her friends were sitting earlier.
Now how do I return this to her?
Flashback end, present day.
I ended up being able to hand Reina's notebook back to her. But, her older brother certainly didn't like me being there. He ended up slamming their front door directly in my face, as he pushed me back outside. Of course, I totally understood why he did so. He's just being super protective of his younger sister.
As I glimpsed around at my surroundings, I noticed that the world around me had suddenly turned blurry. "Wait... Am I wearing my glasses?" I asked of myself, rummaging around for my glasses. I guess they might've fallen off as Reina's brother pushed me away. I stepped back, still unable to locate my glasses.
Crunch!
"Eh?" I glimpsed down at my feet, noticing my pair of broken glasses right under my feet. "Ehhhh???"
Reina's POV
I can't stand Sho!
Sure, he's my older brother and everything, but he really needs to leave me alone most of the time. After all, I'm already eighteen and I still haven't even experienced my first love yet. Unlike my best friends Nozomi and Mayu, I've never had a boyfriend. Nor do I have any guy friends.
Now, my only chance to actually have a boyfriend was once again ruined by my brother. I know that I basically told Nozomi and Mayu that I didn't view Takumi-san in a romantic way, but I guess that he's kinda cute.
Sighing, I flopped upon my bed, still steaming mad at Sho and refusing to talk to him. "He should know that as his little sister, I also deserve some respect!" I yelled as I pet my pet hamster Taro and placed him back into his cage. "Who the hell does he think he is, right, Taro-kun?"
Knock knock!
"Reina, can we talk?" It was my annoying older brother Sho.
"Huh? After what happened downstairs, do you really think I'm willing to talk to you right now?" I yelled at him through my bedroom door. I was awfully frustrated at how everything was playing out before me and just wanted Sho to leave me alone.
"Reina, listen..." Here, Sho let out a huge exhale then continued, "Listen, I'm sorry alright!"
"How can I be so sure that you're sorry?"
"If I let Takumi-kun tutor you, will you be happy?"
Relenting, I opened my bedroom door and let Sho inside. "So, Takumi-kun can tutor me?" I asked of my older brother, my face suddenly brimming with gladness after having been both mad and upset at Sho.
Rolling his dark brown eyes back at me, Sho stated, "Fine, as long as he doesn't make a move on you or anything like that!"
"Onii-chan, trust me..." My voice trailed off as I let out a little sigh. "Takumi-san is nothing like that. I'm sure of it!"
"Okay, I'll take your word for it! But if anything does happen, let me know..." And with that, Sho took his leave.
"Hmm... That's pretty odd of him... Usually, he won't even let me talk to a boy. I wonder if he's truly changed from his usual overprotective self..."
I stared out into the dark as I lay there under my bed covers, watching Sho's bedroom lights go off.
