A/N Hey everyone. I've had people requesting that I finish this story. I was reading through it so I could figure out where I was, and I realized that the story is really badly written. I'm going to rewrite this. Not sure what is going to change, exactly. The storyline is going to be based on my current play through, so that will be different than the last version. I'm not saying this is going to be perfect, but I really hope it turns out better than the last version. I also hope I can finish it this time for all of you. Thank you for reading!
"They will be punished. And in the end, they will see our glorious purpose."
My eyes flutter open, slowly changing my vision from blurry to clear. The words that are said seem unclear, but they ring in my head. Where am I? My hands are zip tied in front of me to the post of a bed. The previously-heard voice continues to talk. I look in the direction it is coming from and see a bald man standing near a radio. He switches it off before the person can finish talking.
"You know what that shit means?" The man in front of me asks, turning around. "It means the roads have all been closed. It means the phone lines have been cut. It means there's no signals getting in or out of this valley." The man takes a seat in front of me. "But mostly it means we're all fucked."
He takes a deep breath and looks away from me. He doesn't seem like he's going to hurt me. His appearance gives the impression that he has done plenty of fighting in his time, probably is still fighting. Hopefully he'll explain after he's done monologuing.
"The goddamn 'Collapse." They all think the world is coming to an end, now. They been waiting for it for years. Waiting for somebody to come along and fulfill their prophecy and kick off their goddamn Holy War. Well you sure as shit kicked." Another long pause. He seems torn between several decisions. "The smartest thing for me to do would just be to hand you over."
He stands up and pulls out a knife. He looks at me, contemplating, before kneeling down and cutting the zip ties. I pull my hands back, rubbing my wrists.
"Get out of that uniform; we need to burn it. There's some fresh clothes there," he says, pointing to a small closet. "When you get changed, you come and see me. We'll see if we can un-fuck this situation." One more sigh and then he leaves the room. I remain where I'm at, unsure of what I'm doing. Trying to process everything that is happening.
Who is this person? Why did they have me tied up here? Where is here? I pull myself up and head for the closet. There are several different options. I decide on camouflage pants, a red flannel, some gloves, and a baseball hat. As I'm pulling off my clothes, I realize that I'm soaking wet. From what?
It all comes back to me. The water. The helicopter ride with Marshal, Whitehorse, Pratt, and Hudson. The crash. We had come here to arrest Joseph Seed, the leader of a cult in Hope County, Montana. But things hadn't worked out. The helicopter crashed and the Marshal and I were the only ones who escaped. We met up and fought through some of the 'Peggies' but it wasn't enough. They had too many trucks and guns and planes. Marshal had crashed and now I was here. But where is the Marshal?
I finally gather enough courage to leave the room. There are hallways and rooms everywhere, but I try to stay focused on finding the man. After stumbling down the hall for a while, I find him. He's in a poorly lit room where the walls are covered in maps and pictures. He's bent over a table where a small radio plays some music.
I look at the pictures. I'd seen these people before; on the files I read and on the stage behind Joseph. Under each picture is a description of the person.
"Are they all really this fucked up?" I ask.
"They sound much nicer on those papers than they are," he responds, turning around. "I didn't properly introduce myself back there. Most folks call me Dutch. I've been trying to figure out what's going on up top. Far as I can tell, your partners are all still alive. Handed off to different members of the 'Family.' You want to get them back. I get that; they've taken people I want back. But the problem is no one is coming to help. No one knows what's going on here, and by the time they find out, it will be too late. Only option is to find those here willing to fight and build a resistance. First thing we need to do is get control of this island. Then we can figure out what to do."
