Construction

Dang. The League needed to oversee construction in Gotham instead of the city council or whoever was in charge, because compared to the League, the city didn't do crap. In just under a week, they had repaired most of the damage left by those evil bucketheads. It was a little shocking to see them at work. I'd Zeta to the Cave from training to see a massive florescent green crane and stop and stare as one of the Green Lanterns waved from overhead. I gave a dumbstruck wave back before going to the kitchen for a snack.

You'd think I would get used to seeing superheroes after all this time, but when I saw Wonder Woman casually eating goldfish crackers, I think I blinked like four or five times before I could function again. Various members of the League, including Captain Atom, The Martian Manhunter, Captain Marvel, and our mentors were all frequent visitors. Either to help with repairs, or keep an eye on us. Kinda pissed the rest of us off.

The first week of school went by relatively smoothly. I'd gotten a feel for the school now and made it to all my classes on time. I ate lunch with Artemis, Dick and Barbra and then Zeta Tubed to The Nest most days where we would have our private training lessons. The pain from my burns lessened after a few days of using the special ointment, and soon I didn't have to hide the redness of my face with concealer anymore.

As for life at the Cave... it was a little less smooth. There was no gentle way of putting it. We were all kind of pissed off about the whole Red fiasco. I also hadn't attempted to talk with Connor ever since he had yelled at me earlier this week, and neither did he. We avoided looking at each other, which was fine with me.

As for my mental state? I was a nervous wreck. I had believed I was safe. I felt a sense of security being here, and with Dinah's training I felt like I could protect myself. But the Cave wasn't as safe as I thought it was. I'd felt just as helpless in that fiery cage as I had during the car incident. If Tornado's wonder siblings could get into the cave, then who's to say the Intergang couldn't get in here either?

I'd wake up in a cold sweat from a nightmare and do pushups in my room when I didn't want to fall back asleep. New threats wormed their way into my dreams every night. Bruno. Whisper. Those soldiers from Byalia. The robots who attacked last week. And worst of all, the car crash. So in an effort to ease my own anxiety about safely, I took precautions and duck tapped various weapons around the cave.

I hid bow staffs and knives and crossbows and dart guns and anything else I could under bathroom sinks, kitchen counters, air vents, under loose tiles, under benches in the locker room, in closets and behind bookshelves in the library. I activated the facial recognition feature on the lock pad of my door. I kept the vent in my room tightly screwed and even kept a stun gun under my pillow, just like I used to.

"You seem to be on edge."  Kaldur observed.

I tore my eyes from the picnic table I sat at to look at him. I tried for a weak smile and hid my twitching hands under the table. I fought the urge to pull my jacket hood over my head.

"I'm fine. I'm just a little restless." I told him.

And I wasn't the only one. My team, Canary, and Green Arrow were all gathered in the training room. And no one looked particularly happy to be here. Wally and Artemis's bickering had lessened considerably, and Connor was sulking off to the side. I snuck a glance at Robin across from the picnic table we were sitting at. A stormy look had covered his features for the past twenty minutes. We were all expecting answers, but so far nothing had been revealed to us.

Kaldur didn't look entirely convinced at my answer, but his attention strayed to my left. I followed his gaze, my stomach doing another flip flop when I saw Batman coming out way. His dark cape swept to the floor as he approached the picnic table, his face blank and expressionless as ever.
