Without even thinking, Dick leapt up from his seat, his sharp jaw locked. He looked utterly frightening. In a split moment, his body went on autopilot mode as his eyes were glued to nothing but me. I waved my arms and screamed for them to go, but my words were lost as he muscled past the other passengers. Dick tried to jump from the Supercycle, and he nearly did until Wally grabbed his friend's shoulders, unceremoniously shoving him back into his seat. Raquel clamped onto Dick's arm, gluing him down.
"Go, Supercycle!" Wally ordered.
She chimed a series of whistles, and her engine roared to life and started speeding towards the exit. Over the sound of the thunderous alien motor, I could hear Dick's shouted protests as he struggled against Raquel's grip, effectively preventing him from doing anything stupid. Wally vaulted from his seat, his form blurring as he reached me.
I shrieked as he swept me up, but we were in too much of a hurry to be gentle. Wally crossed the length of the hanger in moments, skipping the flight of stairs and leaping down it instead. I felt Wally's legs nearly buckle underneath from the landing impact, but he held strong. I felt like I was going to be sick. Wally ran beside the Supercycle, lifting me into Dick's awaiting arms just as the Zeta Tube started to glow. Dick's grip was iron as he pulled me into the Supercycle.
"We've got her! Go, go, go!" Zatana yelled, and Supercycle kicked into gear.
Wally leapt into his seat right as particles of light began to gather inside the tunnel, and we shot forward and into the air like a rollercoaster. There was no time to get me strapped into a seatbelt, so Dick just clutched me to his chest, my face pressed into the crook of his neck. If it weren't for his unrelenting grip, I would have fallen out as our getaway ride twisted in a aileron roll; narrowly escaping through the closing door.
With my eyes closed, hugging Dick's neck for dear life, I wasn't sure If we had made it. Then freezing December air nipped at my skin, filling my hoodie and steaming my breath in front of my face. We traveled up towards the clouds, speeding away from our old sanctuary. I cracked my eyes open to see Dick's face inches away from my own. I was suddenly hyper aware of his hands on my body, and the fact that I was sitting on his lap.
Dick cracked a smile. "You good?"
I chuckled, my body relaxing. I nodded and was about to assure him when he leaned down, cupping my cheek as he pressed his lips to mine. My breath was stolen from me. Any chill I had been experiencing from the December air was whisked away, replaced by hot sparks of heat that lit up my entire body. When Dick finally pulled away from me he whispered,
"Don't do that again."
I remained frozen, still swooning from his sudden kiss. I nearly forgot we had an audience until Wally cleared his throat. I flinched, but Dick only grinned as I hastily climbed off his lap, my fingers fumbling with the seatbelt clasp.
"Thanks, Wally." I nodded to him.
After making sure I was safely buckled, Dick took control of the situation. The role of leadership seemed to fall onto him like an unspoken shroud, and his jaw set with determination.
"Supercycle, deploy stealth mode." Dick ordered.
"Agreed. Stay off your radios. Let the Supercycle track Superboy. Instruct her to mask all signals- we cannot allow the League to track us." Red Tornado told us.
Supercycle chimed in recognition, and I could feel her vibrate underneath us as she initiated the switch. I turned around to check on Dinah. She was still unconscious, her bonds snug and her eyelids closed. My heart ached just by looking at her. I hoped we would get to the bottom of this- and soon.
