Chapter 1- Oh dear

Shit. that was not the call she needed. Nina Ross was already having a bad day and this news has just shattered the glass that already had a crack in it.

"Michael" Nina yelled up the stairs.

"Yes mom" Mike peered round the top of the staircase

"Michael I am having to go to the hospital, I just got a call that your father was rushed in an hour ago after he passed out at work and there has been something found in his blood tests." she explained to him with a large lump in her throat.

Mike's eyes widened at the news; he didn't really know how to react. Well, most children his age would probably cry at the fact their father was in the hospital, but Mike was different to 'other kids'. his mind didn't work the same way a regular child would. He doesn't know how to fully process emotions. they just come out when they come out. He ran down the stairs to give his mom a hug and make sure she knew everything would be okay.

"It's fine mom, just message me when you find out news, I'll go to Trevor's, so you know I'm safe" Mike reassured his mother who was very clearly in pain after hearing this devastating news.

"I will" she hugged him tightly, picked up her car keys and headed out the door.

Mike had told his mother that he was going to spend the day at Trevor's just to put her mind at ease but all he was going to do is sit at home and play video games. His parents don't really know how to feel about Trevor. He can be a bad influence on Mike but also protects him against the older bullies at school, so they let him stay friends with Trevor. But even Mike himself doesn't know how to feel about Trevor. He always feels pressured by Trevor to do all these things despite being the young age of 12, the last time mike went over to his house, Trevor made him drink a beer and he went home feeling severely dizzy and his breath stank of alcohol. He also keeps him around so he isn't alone because it isn't nice being alone at school when the older kids make fun of you for your brain (he has an eidetic memory, meaning he can recall anything that he has even looked at) but somehow Trevor also seemed to use him for this. When it came to maths tests or homework, to 'pay him back' for having his back, Trevor had Mike do all his work for him.

Mike walked back up the stairs and sat at his desk and started to play Minecraft, he had an amazing world on it that he kept adding to everyday and he had been updating it for over year, so it was amazing. There was a theme park, a water park, many hotels and one part even looked like New York City. He was sat there content playing it for about 3 hours when he felt his phone vibrate in his pocket, he took off his headset and pulled it out to see that his mom was calling him. He swiped answer to his mother saying that his father was in critical condition due to lead poisoning, and the doctors don't know if he would pull through. He arranged to bike up to the hospital and meet his mother there as this could be the last day his father lives. He put down the phone, turned off the console, locked up the door and started biking to the Cities hospital. Despite hearing that his father could die at any given time, he still couldn't access this sadness that he was supposed to feel over news like this. he just kept biking and his main concern was to be there for his mother.

When he arrived, he met his mother who was very nervously waiting in 'waiting room B' clearly to hear more news of his dad. She wasn't allowed in the room until the tests had been ran and the doctors could gather anything else about this poisoning.

"We should sue that company you know" Mike blurted out.

"What?" She sounded a mix of irritated and confused.

"We have precedence and rightful cause to sue the company that got dad ill" He explained to his mother, Mike knew a lot about the law despite only being 10, he had read so many books on the topic of law in his free time as it's something that interests him and he remembers from one of them, that something like someone getting seriously ill as a result of factory work is cause for the company to be sued. "Do you have a lawyer mom" he asked her as she rolled her eyes.

"Sorry I was just asking" he murmured with a hint of sass in his voice.

"No Michael I do not have a lawyer, but I do know someone who is one" she said starting to believe they could get a bit of justice for what that company did to her husband.

"You know a lawyer?" mike said confused but also excited that because of him they might be able to do something about what happened to his father.

"Yes, I do, his name is Harvey Specter, we were good friends a few years back, but we lost contact I guess, I was also quite good friends with his co-worker Louis Litt." she told the young boy sitting next to her.

"Well then give that Louis guy a call, he can help dad and then we he is better we will have money to go on a big holiday or a cruise or something like that and you and dad won't have to worry about working or money ever again!" he said adding excitement to each word.

Nina got up and walked over to the corner, she wanted to use Harvey's services instead as he was technically a better a lawyer and New York's 'best closer' whatever that meant but if Michael or James ever found out about what happened between them and if Mike finds out who Harvey really is, she would be screwed for the rest of her life and a cheque like that wouldn't make a difference, they just wouldn't look at her the same.

She went through her contacts and realised she doesn't have Louis's number. "Oh dear" she whispered to herself very quietly, she's going to have to request his services through Louis. this was not going to be a pleasant conversation at all. She pressed on Harvey's number, and it started a call. What has she gotten herself into.
