"thanx, hwa"

Seonghwa read Hongjoong's comment and sighed to himself. Hongjoong's mixed signals are messing with his head now. The guy can be so stern sometimes that Seonghwa can't tell how he feels about him. This wouldn't typically matter, except for the fact that Seonghwa has started to develop a slight crush on Hongjoong since they've been hanging out more frequently. The dark haired boy is used to having crushes, that part of it is not the issue. The issue is that Hongjoong doesn't seem to be interested, and Seonghwa is not used to being the pursuer. Usually boys are drooling over Seonghwa and all he has to do is choose which one he wants. None of these relationships last in the longterm, which is fine since it's just high school dating.

However.

Seonghwa is sick of it. He's sick of boyfriends liking him for a few months (or even weeks) and then getting sick of him. He wants something real for once. He wants something that isn't so easy. He wants to be the one to ask a boy out this time, and he wants the relationship to last.

He shuffles his feet as he makes his way down the hall, lost in thought. He thinks about rejection for a moment, wondering what that may feel like. Seongwha has never been rejected before, ever.

Hongjoong, on the other hand, knows rejection all too well. He and rejection are on a first name basis. He hasn't been in a relationship in a little over a year and a half now, since he is constantly rejected. He suspects that it's because of his looks, though his friends have told him that this is not the case.

"You're not ugly at all dude," he recalls Jongho telling him once, "you're just a Scorpio."

"What the fuck is that supposed to mean?" Hongjoong had asked the younger.

Yunho then spoke up, "I think he means that you can be stand off-ish at times... and a bit defensive."

"What?! I am not defensive!!!" Hongjoong had exclaimed.

"Exhibit A," Jonhgo snorted.

"That doesn't matter though, Joongie," San chimed in, "Eventually, someone will end up liking you for how you are. You don't have to change at all!"

At the time, San's words gave Hongjoong hope. Now though, they fill him with despair, being that this conversation happened over a year ago. Hongjoong has been single ever since.

The boy finished putting his combination in, and opened his locker. It has been a long day, and Hongjoong just wants to get home as soon as possible. He dumped the books he doesn't need anymore into it, and removed a few textbooks he would be needing for homework later. He has plans to help San with his history project later, so he makes sure to grab his giant history textbook as well. After all of the brick-like books are shoved into his backpack, he slams his locker shut.

"Hello!"

"AAAH!" Hongjoong screamed.

Seonghwa blinked at him a few times, as did everyone else in the hallway for his loud ass scream.

"Jeeeeesus, Hwa!" Hongjoong regained his composure, "you scared the shit out of me!"

Seonghwa frowned, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to!"

Hongjoong started walking with Seonghwa at his side as they headed for the school's exit.

"You shouldn't sneak up on people like that, dude," Hongjoong muttered.

"I didn't know walking up to someone at their locker was 'sneaking up on them'," Seonghwa replied, using air quotes.

Hongjoong rolled his eyes, "well, what's up?"
