Buck leaned against the car flipping the pendant through his fingers as he examined it. Something didn't feel right. In his memory, he handled this piece before he put it on the table. And it wasn't this small. Then it dawned on him; it was missing a piece. "Sam, wait!" He called out

"What is it?" Sam turned around.

Bucky clenched his fist as he spoke, "We have to go back. The kid didn't give us the other piece."

Sam tilted his head, giving Bucky a curious look, "How do you know there's another piece"

Bucky glared off to the side, not ready to have this conversation. But Sam persisted, "How do you know about the other piece Bucky?"

"Because it was me" Bucky finally answered

"You?" Sam questioned

"Yes, me as The Winter Soldier. I saved Kira in that alley. I took her home." Sam's eyes widen in surprise as Bucky finished his confession, "Jace is my son. Because I remember putting this on the coffee table at her apartment before I walked out that night 10 years ago"

Sam waved his arms out in protest, "Hold on. The Winter Soldier was an assassin. He didn't go around saving damsels and getting the girl."

Bucky shrugged, "I'm just as confused as you are. I don't think I even understood it back then. I was on a mission and somehow she pulled me out of my trance. Not completely, but enough to stop me from killing my target that night. I remember being reprimanded for not completing my mission when I returned to base."

Sam rubbed his hand over his mouth and around his chin, "Damn. Well, let's head back and get that other piece"

In the car, Sam glanced over at Bucky asking, "Are you going to say anything to them?"

Bucky stared out the window as he replied, "I don't know. They have a perfect life without me. What if I mess it up by revealing who I am?"

School was already out so they headed to the apartment Kira and Jace lived at. Sam and Bucky got out of the car and headed up the stairs. As they turned the corner to the apartment, Bucky noticed the door busted open. He moved closer, peering inside. Furniture was tossed around and some chairs were broken, scattered about. 'Kira? Jace?" Bucky called out as he motioned his head to Sam, signaling to go to the side of the door.

Sam pulled his gun out and entered the apartment. "Anyone in here?" Sam spoke out as he surveyed the room. Bucky walked in, "Shh" he ordered Sam as he turned his head to listen. Whimpers were coming from down the hall.

Bucky ran down and found the room the sound was coming from. He opened the closet door and saw Jace sitting on the floor, crying. "Jace what happened? Where is your mom?" Bucky asked as he kneeled down in front of the kid

Jace sniffled and rubbed his nose as he replied, "I don't know. Scary men broke in. I tried to stop them but," he cried, "They took my mom!" tears streamed down his face as Sam came into the room.

"What about the other piece of the pendant?" Sam asked over to Jace

"I gave it to my mom when we got home. I think that's why they took her" Jace cried harder, "It's all my fault!"

Bucky embraced the Jace as he looked up at Sam, "We can still track it"

Sam nodded, turning and leaving for his car to get his suit.

Bucky pulled Jace back, "Hey kid. We are going to get your mom back. But I need you to be strong right now. Do you have a place you go?"

Jace nodded as he wiped tears from his eyes, "Yeah"
