Stars in the Night Sky [NOCTIS X READER]

AUTHOR'S NOTE

hello, everyone! as stated previously, thank you so genuinely much for reading Stars. This was the biggest undertaking of my writing career and ended up being the longest thing I've ever written with over two years of work put into it. I poured my heart and my soul into this piece and the fact that so many of you have interacted with it in some way and enjoyed it in others means the world to me. Even though this piece started as a self-indulgent fic written for me for my OC, it's turned into such an enormous deal spanning across literal years of dedicated work.

Now, here's the thing. Proud as I am of the final product, there are a few glaring issues I have with the overall tone of it and a few things I would do differently if I were to rewrite it. Autumn being the main one, as I can't take credit for her conception and has to go to a good personal friend of mine. She'd been created post-fic creation (I'm talking I was already on like, chapter six or seven by this point) and I had to scramble together to put her somewhere that made sense. Adelaide too, was originally another character before I changed her name due to a bad falling out with the original character's creator. As a result, it feels wrong to have Adelaide as she is in her current state. Even though me and this former friend worked together on her backstory and I created a majority of it, she still wasn't truly mine and given the history behind her and the character she used to be, I want to create something new with her.

That being said, if I were to rewrite the fic (keeping this one up in the meanwhile, of course) would you all be interested in reading it? There would be significant changes, probably not to the overall plot of the fic, but to the very least the characters and the interactions between Noctis and the reader, the introductions of several characters, and overall just make it a more coherent experience. Regardless, this would take probably a very, very long time to do and I can promise nothing out of it, but the option is there. And, as a side-note, I also have Episode Prompto (but with Addy so like...Episode Prompto/Addy lmao) entirely written out if that's something you're all interested in me publishing for your reading pleasure. The other thing I've been considering is a sequel involving all the kids, but again, that is in the conception stage and I have no idea where I'd even start with that.

Well, either way, no matter what happens, the fact of the matter remains the same. Thank you, from the bottom of my fucking heart, for reading the project I'm most proud of. I hope you enjoyed!

UPDATE: after much deliberation, a rewrite of Stars is in the works! i don't know if it will still be an x reader when it's finally done (might keep it in its original form as an x OC), but here's a list of things you can expect in the rewrite:

-Adelaide will be entirely reworked as a separate character and Cassielle will be given more screentime. Essentially, I want to swap their roles. I have a better idea and grasp of what direction I want to take Addy's character, and I think the way I want to do it will end up being darker/more fun to write :D

-a more concrete introduction to Autumn who by god really needs it

-more interaction between Noct and the Reader before the fall (yes, this means more chapters)

-clearer, concise character arcs

-more foreshadowing

-outright rewrites of some of the moments in the story that I'm not too happy with (i.e. chapters 16-19, some moments in Altissia, select chapters of the Decade Long Night, etc.)

-a full on introduction to a concept i started building on towards the end of the fic but now, thanks to Autumn's creator sitting down with me and letting me talk at her about XV lore and creating lore for this New Idea:tm: for like four hours, i can actually put it into execution better than I did lol

-general editing purposes

There's probably more that I'm forgetting, but that's the broad gist of it. here's to hoping I'll be able to release bits and pieces of the progress!

UPDATE #2:

I've now released the rewrite! It is still a WIP but I promise you it's worth the read. It's no longer a Noctis x Reader though so, fair warning if x OCs are not your thing (I don't hold it against you if so, neither am I to a certain extent).

A character's name has been changed in editing. It doesn't change the reading experience whatsoever, just newcomers will find that she's under a different name now :)
