It didn't take long for the Imperial dropships to blacken the sky.
Standing on the altar with Autumn, you couldn't help but look nervously up at them. The comm in your ear chirped as Prompto couldn't help but point out how many of them there were. At this rate, Altissia would be turned into a full-on war zone.
If it wasn't one already...
You tried hard to ignore the water at nearly all sides as you scanned the altar, looking up at the rooftop nearby to see if you could spot Adelaide on top of it, but you counted it as a good thing when you couldn't. The role of snipers, after all, was to remain unseen. Adelaide was, as always, really good at her job.
You took a deep breath, trying to steel your nerves. This was it—the catalyst of your entire journey. All that you had endured from Insomnia onwards was for this moment and as Lunafreya opened her mouth and began to sing, it all hit you at once.
Lunafreya's voice was hauntingly beautiful as it echoed over the expanse of the water that toiled and lapped at the edges of the stone altar. It was something melancholy and mournful - like someone grieving for what once was but never would be again. It made your heart ache.
As Lunafreya's voice swelled over the massive pool before you, the waves began to rise, steadily getting more intense as the wind started to pick up. The dark clouds above your heads opened up, the steady drizzle starting to turn into a full-on downpour.
Then, Leviathan spoke.
Some horrible crackling voice—like the goddess was speaking with a hundred voices at once—made your ears ache with the sheer intensity of Leviathan's voice. You had no earthly idea of what the Hydreaon was saying - the words she spoke were foreign and of a language long-dead to Eos. But you felt the weight of them nonetheless and assumed it was nothing good by the way Lunafreya adjusted her stance and squared her shoulders. And, despite being at the foot of the stairs rather than up at the altar proper, you could still tell that the Oracle's grip was white-knuckled around her trident.
"It is I, Lunafreya, blood of the Oracle!" she called as soon as Leviathan had stopped speaking, her voice impressively steady. "Goddess of the Seas, I beseech you: enter into this covenant that the King might reclaim the Stone!"
For a moment, there was silence. Leviathan did not respond, seemingly contemplating Lunafreya's words.
But then, the water exploded.
You couldn't help but flinch as Leviathan rose from the water, sending a small tsunami in every direction. The goddess herself took the appearance of a serpent, with thick dark blue scales and fins the size of a mansion. Leviathan herself—while curling her massive head with a maw filled to the brim with alarmingly sharp teeth to regard Lunafreya at the Altar—was the size of a large skyscraper, towering over Altissia with seawater dripping like waterfalls back into the pool. She flapped her fins forward, sending a torrent of water at the Altar where Lunafreya stood. You made to defend her, but your worries were unfounded as the Oracle didn't even flinch, not even as the water splashed against her face.
Leviathan spoke again, longer this time, in her horrible voice. Her dark beady eyes zeroed in on Lunafreya, mouth opening and closing, but it didn't look like she was speaking. Merely imitating it, projecting her thoughts with mind alone. You wished you understood it.
Lunafreya pursed her lips. "I do," she said firmly.
That, apparently, was the wrong thing to say. Leviathan threw her massive head back and made a shrieking noise reminiscent of nails on a chalkboard and spoke again. She moved forward, catching her scales against the pillars at Lunafreya's sides, knocking them to pieces and sending the rubble cascading into the ocean. You did actually take a few steps forward that time, taking the steps two at a time, but Lunafreya threw her hand back in a clear 'stop' motion that made you freeze where you were.
