986 – 1000: As a young boy, Dreid stayed close to his father Weslyn, even after they were both abandoned in Galway by Runof on his trip to the land of the young. He joined Weslyn in the court of King Lannan and was cared for by the king while his father was out fighting at the battle of Mount Bellew. Dreid saw Weslyn become the royal advisor to the Dwarf King and was lightly notified of Weslyn's ascension to the throne of High King of Ireland. He stood by and watched as Weslyn grew into a tyrant bent on conquering the whole of Ireland and ruling his lands with an iron fist.

Dreid was never fully sure if he was to inherit the High Kingship even if Weslyn had held on to power, but luckily survived the brief conflict that resulted in his father's deposition and retirement. Finally, Dreid had had enough of Weslyn's shenanigans and decided to leave for a new adventure alone, passively bid farewell by his father. As a memento of their time together, Weslyn gave his son the recipe for the potion of invulnerability as he left the manor. Dreid started heading west along the rivers and Loughs, grappling with his new responsibility as the fourth potion brewer.

He was drawn to the land of Clare as news spread of Finn, a southern Irish prince, and his grand challenge. In the town of Ennis, Dreid was one of the fresh contenders for the reward of a silver helmet and a sturdy boat made of bronze. The grand challenge was to be dropped into a large pit with a swarm of small tortoises and several other challengers. As others struggled to climb the edges of the hole, Dreid stacked the tortoises one on top of the other in a tower of shells tall enough to form a pedestal that helped Dreid reach the top of the hole and escape. He kindly received the reward from prince Finn and continued on his quest.
