-George pov-
Damn. George thought as he looked up into the tall boys dirty-yellow eyes. A gust of fresh air whacked him in the face. He's fine. Then realization hit George at what he just thought, and he silently scolded himself for having such ridiculous thoughts, shaking his head slightly. Finally George realized he was staring at Clay. Great, now I've made things awkward. George looked away for a second before looking back with a response- "Oh, hi, my name's George. Thanks for the muffins. Umm, if you don't mind, you can come in, I was just making some tea!" Clay spoke- "No, it's fine. I mean I really don't want to make you feel uncomfortable or anythi-" There's no way I can just let him give me muffins and go! "No, please! I insist!" George smiled as he motioned for Clay to come inside. He responded with a 'thanks' and a smile. They both walked inside into the mostly empty living room. "The lorry with the rest of my furniture will be arriving tomorrow" George explained as he walked to the kitchen, pouring a cup of tea. "Luckily I got my sofa and coffee table" George chuckled. "Black tea or green?"George questioned the guest "Black tea please, 2 spoons of sugar." Clay responded. George bought the tea over to the table. They sat in a somewhat awkward silence, just drinking tea and eating muffins, before Clay started the conversation. "So, how are you liking the muffins?" George answered in between mouthfuls- "They're delicious!" George smiled as he continued chewing. "Glad to hear that. Does that mean I'm a professional baker now?" Clay asked smugly, before they both started laughing. The tension from before started melting as they talked about how old they are, their hobbies, and Minecraft. They seemed to be getting along better than with any other stranger. Before they knew it a whole hour passed, and of course, the muffins were long gone by then, so George bought out some sugar cookies. They laughed and talked some more, both subconsciously reaching for the last cookie. Each of their fingers brushed against the others. George felt an electric spike run through his body. He looked down at the plate. Is it wrong to be enjoying this? What if Clay feels uncomfortable though? I should do something. So he quickly lifted his hand up to scratch his head. Clay retreated his hand and uncomfortably looked away "I s-should probably get going now, see you around?"Shit. I made him uncomfortable. "Yeah, see you around" George got up and followed Clay to the door, but not before exchanging phone numbers, then waving and locking it behind him, turning his back to the door. George, remember, girls are pretty, not boys. George slowly sank down onto the floor as the words lingered in his mind girls are pretty, not boys. George shivered as an unwanted memory crawled back into his mind.
*Flashback*
George- Mummy, mummy guess what? Mum- What sweetie? She takes George's hand into her own and smiles down at him sweetly. George- There's this boy in my class, and today he walked up to me and gave me a flower! I thought it was really nice of him. George beamed up at his mother. Unlike her son, the smile on her face was quickly replaced by a tight-liped grimace, she stood up and started walking faster towards the car. George- Mummy! Mummy wait for me! She stopped dead in her tracks as George ran up behind her, crashing into her legs. Her hands were balled up into fists, but George, being only 5, didn't know what that meant. Mum- George, I'm only going to say this once. Remember, flowers are for girls. Boys shouldn't be giving flowers. Not to other boys.
*End of flashback*
George sobbed on the floor in despair as a single tear rolled down his cheek. Now, that sentence is forever engraved into my mind.
