Max woke up from his sleep, still resting against the same tree from last night. He rubbed his eyes as he looked at his surroundings. He remembered why he was there in the first place.
Max wondered if the person who wrote the note showed up at all. He didn't know why he felt so sleepy all of the sudden, but he was so tired that he fell asleep up to that tree.
He checked his phone and saw that it was around the time he should be getting ready for school. He looked around to make sure no humans were nearby and summoned a magic circle to teleport back home. He found himself in the main hall of the Hyoudou Residence he and everyone else in the Gremory peerage lived.
Max: "Hello? Is anyone home?!"
He waited a few moments and listened, but didn't get an answer. He assumed that they all may have had to go to school earlier than usual for something.
He quickly showered, got into his school uniform, combed his hair, and went downstairs to the kitchen. He didn't see or hear anyone in the Hyoudou Residence the whole time he was there.
He made himself lunch for school and then made a bit of breakfast. His breakfast was just a piece of toast that had peanut butter and jelly on it. He placed it in his mouth as he grabbed his bag, and then went to the front door.
He stopped for a moment and turned around to look back at the home. He didn't know why, but he felt like he should enjoy a moment of peace before he leaves. He shook off the feeling and left the house to go to school.
After minutes of walking, Max saw the entrance of Kuoh Academy. When he got close enough, he saw a familiar face. He saw the white hair, the cat hairpin, the height.
It was Koneko, one of the rooks in the peerage. What was so special about her, was that she was one of the two nekoshous remaining in the world.
Instead of the usual stoic face, she wore an angry expression on her face. She wasn't just angry, she was sending a glare of hatred at Max. He didn't know what happened so he decided to ask her.
Max: "Good morning Koneko! Are you feeling well? You seem a bit angry."
Koneko got angrier and had a few thoughts running through her head.
Koneko: "(And now he's pretending that he didn't do anything.)"
She responded in an angry voice with venom laced in each word.
Koneko: "I'm fine."
Max was now confused. She certainly didn't sound fine, but he didn't want to trouble her or impose too much.
Max: "Are you sure? I'm a little worried about you."
Koneko: "Yes, but you're needed at the ORC after school."
Her tone of voice didn't change at all and her glare didn't disappear either, but Max decided not to push it as to not anger her further. He thought that maybe she didn't have a good night's sleep or something else right?
Max: "Alright thanks for telling me Koneko. Remember if you need to talk, me and the others are here for you."
After he said that he began to walk away, but he didn't hear a response from Koneko. Instead, he still felt her glare piercing into him. He was now beginning to feel worried about Koneko. Things didn't get any better throughout the whole day.
Instead, they got worse. When he went through his classes, all of the other people in the peerage were acting strange. All of the devils that attended Kuoh Academy were acting strange.
Many of them were giving him angry glares, some looked conflicted, but all of them kept their distance from Max. When lunchtime came, Max went up to the roof of the academy to eat his lunch like he usually does.
