Scarlet

Aunt Raven and I sat in the kitchen, just after i locked the doors. I let my head fall, landing on the brown wood table with a soft thud. "You got me a job?" Aunt Raven stood leaning against the sink, in her blue pajamas, drinking from her coffee cup. Swallowing before speaking, "Yes, a job. I'm not going to allow you to just lay around," she says, turning slightly to place the cup in the sink. I groan loudly, "Fine, where is it anyway?" she smiles at my reluctant agreement, I raise my head to look at her. "It's a café not to far from here, and the owner is a good friend of mine," Aunt Raven informs, looking at the watch on her wrist. "Right, and I won't be here to wake you, I leave for work at five, you leave for seven thirty to get there for eight," she says, looking at me intently "So set your alarm for at least an hour early okay," I nod, pushing back the chair so I could move. "Okay, thanks, I'll be heading to bed then,"

--
My eyes fly open, raising up quickly, I look over to my clock. "Shit. my alarm didn't go off!" I groan, seeing seven fifteen on the clock face. It's either that, or I just didn't hear it, I probably would of if that dream didn't pop up again. Throwing the sheets off myself, I push of the bed, "Damn, Alright Scarlet. First day at work.. let's not make a bad impression,"
Rummaging through my clothes that we're now officially packed into my closet, I pull out a tee and jeans, draping them on my bed. Then walking to my bathroom to get ready. After a quick shower, i quickly grab my jeans, pulling them on. Struggling with the left leg that doesn't want to slide over my foot. Giving it a harsh tug, it pulls up, "Thank God," I say, getting ready with five minutes to spear. Closing my bedroom door, I hurry down stairs, grabbing my keys, i lock the door behind me. Checking my phone as it buzzed, "Hello?"
"Scarlet, did you leave home yet?" I chuckle, knowing it would her. Walking up the street, the opposite direction of where I would normally walk. Since the café is that way, "Yeah, just on time too," I smile. Jumping over a crack in the sidewalk, like I used to I was a child. "Okay, you got my note with where you're going right?" she asks, unfolding the white paper in my hand, I check the address. "Yes,"
Looking up briefly, making sure I don't bump into anyone, while crossing a fairly busy street. Seeing the café a few blocks from where I am, I pick up my pace.
"I'll call you later okay sweetie, Good luck, "

Stopping right outside, I admire the large café, ' C'est la vie' French, something I'm not good at. I chuckle at my own thought, taking a moment to breathe as well. Smiling at the large clean windows that gives a clear view of inside. People just enjoying their breakfast, chatting amongst themselves. The moment was short lived as someone clears their throat. Looking down at the person, whom I realize to be a girl my age, her brown eyes staring annoyingly back at me. "You're Scarlet Sage right?" she asks, twirling a strand of her dark hair between her fingers. I nod, answering her question, she responds with a 'good' before swiftly turning away, walking ahead of me and into the cafe. Following after the shorter girl, I enter the café, watching as everyone briefly look up to see who enters, before continuing with their own business. I let myself take in the smell of rich coffee and the strong scent of vanilla and cinnamon. "Come on," the girl says, tugging on my wrists roughly, with a look of disgust.
She leads me through the customer area, to the back. Where she knocks on a black door, a muffled ''come in,'' was heard, the girls pushes the door open, wide enough so the person inside could see me clearly. A man sat behind a dark table, going through what appears to be documents. He looks up, smiling when he sees me. I walk in further, the girl closing the door behind me, "Please, excuse my daughter, she's... a bit new to the environment,"
Daughter... I nod, even though she hasn't really done anything, besides the wrist grab, but I do have a feeling she'd be a problem. I can't help but notice the mischievous look in her eyes, it's like she'd always be up to something.
"Raven said you'd be here, Scarlet," he begins, looking at me. "It's nice to finally meet you, I understand that you'd be working here, and I'm glad to have you," he says cheerfully, giving a smile. He brushing his dark hair form his eyes, looking much like his daughter. "Thank you, it's nice to be here," Turning in his chair, he opens a drawer, pulling out a name tag and a black shirt with the café name printed on the breast. "I had your name tag made for you," he says, passing the stuff over to me carefully, I gently take it from him smiling. "But. I can't let you work, for today, it's only your first day, You can go home and come out tomorrow, Or if you like you can stay and get used to things,"
"Oh, would it be okay if I start today?" I asks, watching as he raise his eyebrows in surprise, "Are you sure?"
I nod, "Yes," He sighs, seeing that I was not going to put this down, "Alright then, it'd be a bit rough for you at first though," I smile, telling him that I'd be fine, and I can handle it. We talk a little bit more, about payment and the time that I'd be working.

After changing my shirt, I started working, It's great here, the people are great, they tip well also, so I'm making some extra cash, it's about three now, and most people are just coming in for tea, or coffee. Standing in front the large counter, I chat with Kate for a bit. She is really nice, helping me get used to the place, and showing me where things go, stuff like that. "I'm gonna go use the bathroom," i say to Kate, playing down my tray, "watch my tables would you?" She nods, waving me off.
"Can I have a coffee to go please?" I turn to face the owner of the voice, giving a small yelp of surprise. Rafael was standing right behind me, looking down, he smirks at me, "Oh, Hi. I didn't know you worked here,"
"Nice to see you Rafael," I say, forgetting that I wanted to use the restroom. He nods in response, giving Kate a little wave, she smiles from where she stands from behind the counter, looking interested in what we we're doing. I didn't expect to see him after we met at the library, he just doesn't look like the type to be up and about. "Yeah, I started today," I say, suddenly looking at my sneakers, unable to look him in the eye. He chuckles, "Right, I'll get you that coffee, you can take a seat by the time," I say.
-
"Here you go," I say, gently resting the cup on the table, He was looking out the window, staring intently at something across the street before looking up at me, "Thanks," he says, he eyes quickly flickering outside again.
--
"Are you sure you don't want a ride home?" Kate asks again, looking at me with worried eyes, taking out her blonde hair, massaging her scalp. "Yeah, my aunt is picking me up," I say, just as she rounds the corner, "Okay! then I'll see you tomorrow," she says, waving to me before driving off.
Getting into the car, Aunt Raven smiles at me, "So, how was your first day?" she asks excitedly, looking at me briefly "Great,"
