a/n: chapter one of my wildest dreams fic, hope you enjoy :)
Y/N Baldwin was not like the other girls. She was an only child, born and raised in Outer Banks, brought up by two parents who didn't classify as rich, nor poor, just somewhere in the middle of a kook and a pogue.
Her mother worked as a chef at the country club, granting them access to all the club had to offer. Her father worked as a handy man for his own company, mainly contracted by people who lived on figure eight. They didn't have the most money, but they had a nice home and nice cars.
Y/N, she didn't care about the social class of those around her. No, Y/N Baldwin cared more about the real things in life, like getting out of this nowhere town the second she got the chance. The summer of her senior year, things would change for Y/N, though, and she was not prepared for how different life would be, come this time next year as she gets ready to leave for college.
See, Y/N's friends all lived on the cut, minus Kie and Sarah, who were fortunate enough to live on figure eight. Y/N wasn't far off of living on figure eight, but close enough to not be considered a member of their 'community'.
"God, I hate Rafe Cameron and his stupid girl gang." Pope grunted, slamming his body on top of John B's couch."What did they do this time? So help me, Pope, if they laid a hand on you I will come unglued." Kie was always the most aggressive one of the group, but that's what made Kie, Kie.
"Kie, chill okay." John B said, in a cheap attempt to calm her down, but that just fired her up even more.
"Sarah, I swear if your stupid brother did anything-"
"They didn't do anything, Kiara. Just stop." Pope cut her off. "I just hate that when I'm trying to work with my dad they have to roll by on their stupid ass boats and act like they're untouchable.
She gulped as she thought about the previous summer nights she had spent with none other than Rafe Cameron himself. They had started seeing each other a few weeks prior, sharing some of the same friends and his sister dating one of her best friends.
Y/N had been at the Cameron residence, waiting for Sarah to gather her things for another adventure with the pogues and get back into Y/N's Jeep, and that's when Rafe had come up to her, and for the first time, it was different.
Y/N thought about the way Rafe's hand had brushed hers so gently, it was enough to send her into an obsessive rage, wanting and needing to feel him in every aspect.
She texted him that night, sparking up a conversation, which lead to them hanging out at nearly two thirty in the morning.
It was like they had known each other forever, which, they had. But it was different, they talked for hours without running out of things to say, never wanting to leave each others presence.
It went on for days before either one of them had made a move. They had been sat in the bed of Rafe's truck, lounged on a blanket looking up at the stars, eating candy they had bought at the gas station around the corner from Y/N's house.
They laughed at each other as they threw tiny pieces of gummy candy into each other's mouths, enjoying each others company and calling one another stupid for not catching it. "Stupid, huh? I'll show you stupid." He laughed, pulling his phone out to show her what she thought was a picture, but what ended up being his front facing camera. And he caught a picture, in all her goofy glory, and they couldn't help but laugh at each other as she chased him around the truck in attempt to delete the picture off of his phone. But it was too late, he had saved it.
