Rafe and I sat at the country club cafe, eating dinner. It was strangely quiet that night. Not many people were talking. Topper was sitting a couple tables over with Kelce, him and Rafe's mutual friend.

"Why are you so quiet?" I questioned Rafe.

"What?" Rafe asked.

"You've been sitting here quietly for the past half an hour. You haven't said one thing to me." I continued. I could feel Topper's eyes burning a hole into me.

"What is there to talk about, River?" He shot back, distaste in his voice.

"Excuse me?" I replied, raising my voice.

"It's nothing." He snapped, staring at me intently.

"Have you been seeing someone else?" I shot back, my words full of hurt.

"Wha.. No!" He stammered, running his hands through his hair.

"Don't lie, Rafe. When Harper was with JJ, she said she saw you at the beach with Kiara." I accused.

Guilt filled his emotionless face.

"It's not like that, River. She's just a friend." He lied.

"Just a friend? So you kiss friends."

He shook his head, "No, River. It was nothing, I swear! It didn't mean anything." I cried as I stood up.

"Go fuck yourself, Rafe. I thought you were different." I sobbed, tears beginning to fall. I turned and walked out of the cafe as Rafe called my name.

"Fuck!" I heard him scream as I headed to Harper's car.

I yanked the door open and quickly wiped my tears away.

"Take me to dad's." I told her, clicking my seatbelt on.

I pulled out my phone quickly and dialed Kiara's number, "You're up, phase two is complete." I ended the call quickly and turned to my sister as she cleared her throat.

"Are you sure about this plan?" Harper asked me.

I nodded, "Yeah, and you're going to help."

"What?"

"You're going to date JJ Maybank."

Harper started to giggle, "Good thing he's hot."

I laughed, "He's kind of a dick."

"That's okay." Harper joked, "That's my type."
