"Hey. You ready for an unforgettable night?" Jake says as I get in his car. "Yes, sir." "Don't call me sir! That's something you call your dad or teacher. I'm your boyfriend." "Sorry. I was just kidding around." "No you're not. Get out." "No. Not again. You can't just keep doing this to me. It's not right." "You're right. I shouldn't do this to you ever again. So, I guess we should just break up then." "What?" "You heard me. Now get out!" "But...you said you loved me." "I lied." "But...I...don't..." With that he pushed me out of the car. His car made a screech sound and zoomed away. I walked 7 miles home in the pouring rain. When I got home I heard yelling. It was my parents again. I walk in and they're so busy fighting, they don't even pay attention to me. I walk to the bathroom and clean myself. Then, I go to the girls' room and lay down on my bed. Maria and Rosa must be playing in the boys' room. "Sofia?" I say looking up at the ceiling. "Yes?" "What did you talk about with Emilio?" "When?" "Yesterday." "Oh. We were just talking about you. We are all a little worried, especially since you tried to kill yourself." "I did not." "If your depressed it's alright, but the first step to getting better is admitting it." "I'm not depressed and didn't try to kill myself. I was just wetting my hair." "No you weren't. Just admit it." I thought back to the abuse I'd went through with Jake, the fighting between my parents, all of the pain. I came to realization with myself. "I wasn't wetting my hair." I whisper. "I was drowning myself."
