~Samara's POV~
"Can you make sure to lock up when you leave, Samara?" My boss asked me on Wednesday night, cocking up a brow as she tossed the keys to me from where she stood by the front door of Allsaints, getting ready to leave.
"Yeah." I said, though I felt a little bit nervous about the fact that I was going to be left with the responsibility of being here on my own. I had never been the one that locked up at the end of the day because I never had to work so late, but I had taken the night shift tonight and had to close at eleven PM. Thankfully, I only had about another hour before I could go home, so I decided to just watch a bunch of YouTube videos on my phone until then. "Bye." I called after her as she walked out the front door, setting the keys she'd thrown me on top of the counter. I didn't want to risk somehow losing them.
Now left alone, I began to watch random YouTube videos on my phone, hearing the wind howling outside. It was supposed to rain tonight, which I was pretty excited about because I loved when it rained.
The time seemed to pass by rather quickly and, before I even knew it, I was grabbing the keys to lock up and dropping my phone back into my purse to get ready to leave. I left the store, not surprised that it was already beginning to pour down rain as I locked up the doors, feeling the cold water landing on me as it fell from the sky. After I had locked the doors I hurried over to my car, digging into the pockets of my black vinyl pants to grab my car keys to unlock it.
My car beeped when I unlocked the car, hurriedly climbing into the driver's seat to get out of the rain as it was now coming down even harder. It looked like the rain was going to be more intense than I had thought. I stuck the key into the ignition and tried to turn on the engine, but it just sort of sputtered, as if it were trying to start up but couldn't. A frown formed on my lips as I tried again, hoping that it would start up, but the engine just sputtered once more and failed to start up. "Goddamn it." I muttered to myself, continuing to try and fail over and over again. I must've tried at least ten more times before I gave up, groaning to myself as I pulled my keys out of the ignition and slipped them back into my purse.
I glanced out the windshield of my car, jumping when a sudden flash of lightning and monstrous roar of thunder struck, startling me. The storm wasn't going to be letting up anytime soon, judging by the way it looked right now. If anything, it was probably just getting started, and wouldn't stop until sometime tomorrow. I couldn't just sit here all night.
So I forced myself to step out of the car, wishing that I had brought an umbrella or at least a jacket with me now that I had to fucking walk home. I looped my purse over my shoulder and began to walk home, knowing that I wouldn't be getting home for at least an hour, likely closer to an hour and a half. I hadn't even been walking for three minutes and I was already soaked down to my bones, my hair sticking to my neck and my face and my vinyl pants now feeling even tighter because of the rain. Shivering from the cold, I crossed my arms over my chest and kept on down the sidewalk, feeling slightly paranoid every time I heard a car approaching from behind. Only when they drove past did I feel a little more relaxed.
However, it was when I heard a car beginning to slow down and eventually stop that I walked a little faster, more than slightly paranoid. It was dark and storming, and I was pretty sure this was the type of weather I'd be kidnapped easiest in.
"Samara?" A familiar voice called out to me as the car pulled up to the curb, causing me to stop and glance over in relief. I sighed deeply and brushed my fingers through my wet hair, pushing it out of my face. "God, you scared me." I told him, having to raise my voice slightly because the rain was falling so hard. He looked at me for a brief second, probably thinking that I looked like a drowned rat, and then gestured with his hand for me to come closer to his car. I walked over, stopping just outside of the driver's side door. "Get in, come on." He insisted.
