Locket was eight now, learning to swim in case a canoe he was in capsized. And he was learning how to use a canoe, although he hadn't used one yet. The fish in the water were being taken left right and center since it was that time of year for the fish. Meaning large bounties of food awaited the villagers, locket wouldn't be able to cash in, again. He'd see the nets the fishermen would bring back, they were stuffed with various fish, and all locket had was some minnows and salmon from fishing at the dock with his rod. He envied the men who knew how to use the nets, wanting so desperately to magically turn sixteen so he could learn, so he could do more. But he couldn't, he was just a child. Only meant to fish with their Pa before playing at the beach or a field barefooted for a few hours, go home and eat a meal that was caught by your family, and repeat the next day. Sure he contributed, but a few minnows he could fish up wouldn't fill his own belly. He decided that the amount of fish the net fishermen brought in, was enough to where they wouldn't notice a few going missing, and maybe his mom and dad would be too filled with pride to even suspect that the bass their son fished up was stolen. And so he went to the port on his usual morning fishing trip, a small tin bucket in hand, and his fishing rod in his other hand. He set his things down at the end of the dock, and he sat down on the edge, he was finally able to touch the top of the water with his toes. And he began to fish. Although when he saw a few canoes enter the docks to unload some fish, he got up, and picked up his tin bucket, it had some small minnows and trout in it, and he slowly began to walk past the small group of fishermen hoisting the net onto the dock. He walked past as he looked ahead, a wave of nervousness washed over him as he grabbed a decent sized fish from their net, and quickly hid it in his tin bucket before walking off to his home. He assumed no one saw him, he hoped no one saw him, he put his bucket next to some other newly caught fish so his brother or sisters could hang it and salt it, He didn't know how to do either. Although locket hoped his family wouldn't notice that he stole the fish, Some other fisherman saw him take the fish, and it didn't take long until word reached Opa and his family. Shocking to believe but theft is illegal in most places, needless to say for a week straight he was sitting at a table cutting the heads off of fish and gutting them. His family assumed this would teach him two lessons at once, how to partially prepare fish, and not too steal. Locket did take two lessons away from this. how to partially prepare food, and to not get caught
