Ricky held his head. The ghosts whispers filled it.
I remember you
You were there
Why
Why did you not save me
He gasped for breath. Where was he? Everywhere he looked it was dark, very dark. He could only see orbs for blue light that were the spirits that tormented him.
"I-" Ricky choked on his words. "I'm so sorry." Suddenly a bright white glow appeared in front of him. "Y-you!" He stuttered.
"Idiot!" She spat. Her white dress was dripping with water like always. But instead of he long black hair floating around her it was sleek, and flat, covering one side of her face. "You're just going to lie here again."
"N-no I don't-"
"You are going to wallow in your self pity and not give a SHIT about what's happening now." She growled.
Ricky stared, shocked at the language coming from such a young girl. "That's not true I-" he tried to defend himself.
"Every single time!" She turned her back to walk away. "I don't know if you know this." She whispered. "But each one of us has had to re-live this. We feel this pain, this terror, over and over again. Every. Single. Day."
Ricky struggled to stand up, wobbling as he finally got to his feet. "I'm sorry, but I don-"
"EXCUSES!" She screams, suddenly right in Ricky's face. A breeze is starting to appear from somewhere, blowing his hair around gently. "THIS IS WHAT YOU DO. THESE GIRLS HAVE TOLD ME. THEY TOLD ME WHAT YOU DO. YOU WAKE UP AND YOU FORGET!" She screeched.
"You forget."
Ricky was numb. He couldn't feel his legs beneath him. It was an odd sensation, the feeling of nothingness. The feeling that he was going to drop at any moment and there was nothing to stop him.
"You try to make up excuses to make the pain lessen. But it does nothing." She stared daggers at Ricky. "We die again every day. We are dying right now." She whispered aggressively. She stood silently, transparently, in front of Ricky, who stared at the spirits behind her. Crying and screaming. Shouting for their mothers and fathers that would never come, that couldn't come.
"No." He said, trying and failing to keep his voice steady. "You are wrong. I will do something. I'm going to stop this." He was breathing heavily.
"Liar." The small girl hissed, then disappeared back into the shadows.
I remember you.
"You do."
You were there.
"I was."
Why.
"I'm sorry."
Why didn't you save me?
"I will this time."
Ricky turned to the cluster of ghosts gathered around him. He slowly nodded at the spirits, the ones who died and continued to die. And only with the thought of defeating the killer, Ricky pinched his arm and the darkness faded, like it was being sucked into a black hole. Leaving existence, never to be seen again.
The bright light blinded Ricky as he he blinked. He was lying down in the middle of the forest. Soft moss was growing under his bare arms.
He inhaled deeply as he stood up, propping himself against a tree trying to steady the intense shaking in the legs. Ricky didn't know where he was. He hardly remembered who he was. But all that mattered, was that he knew who to defeat.
