Chapter 11

J.

The Pinks decide we should not be in public (our school cafeteria) for everything that we are going to talk about now. Something about what they're about to say feels heavy, but it could just be me having to go back to the woods I was almost killed in out of everyone's prying eyes so we can talk. Lisa's hand rests lightly yet reassuringly at the small of my back as I look at her, her grey eyes offering understanding. She can't hear me, yet she knows how the experience might be uncomfortable for me.

"Sorry again about insisting on the woods, Jennie. But Jisoo's clairvoyance is reliable and we shouldn't face any problems here like last time." Wendy says, her eyes falling to the scarf wrapped around my neck because of the still raw wound. I nod, a little relaxed by Wendy's judgement, since Jisoo, another one of the Pink vampires (and Rosé's big fat crush), is a little out of it. The girl is skipping around like a rabbit without worry.

"Aw, thank you! Did you know you look like a cat?" Jisoo says enthusiastically as I tire a little of the fact that they can all hear me. I smile, not knowing what else to do.

Lisa glares at Jisoo and presses up more beside me as the unbothered vampire skips happily away.

"Here might be convenient." Irene's voice rings through the woods as Taehyung halts, nodding.

"No." Jisoo says, her voice serious for once as I shiver.

I only just realize I'm a human amongst five vampires and a werewolf.

"Definitely a bad idea for a human." Seulgi says cheerfully, as Jisoo glares coldly at her.

"What's up with yo-" Seulgi is cut off when Kai holds up a hand, his expression as serious as Jisoo.

"Oh. It's Rosé." Kai says, breathing out harshly.

My eyes widen.

"Oh, good. You haven't killed her or anything." Rosé says, breathing out as she walks towards us from a distance, leaves and twigs crunching beneath her feet.

Should I be scared?

"No, you don't. She's with us. Sometimes." Jisoo says to me but her eyes trained on Rosé.

"I'll never get that vampire mind-reading thing. Sorry about jumping you, Jennie." She says as I open and close my mouth, not sure what to say or do.

Is Rosé a vampire, too? I've been sharing a flat with a vampire all this time? Wow, so she knew today morning why I was wearing my scarf but only pretended to be oblivious. I feel betrayed.

Rosé grimaces and looks unsure.

"She's a werewolf." Wendy says and Lisa shakes her head.

Okay, so I'm amongst five vampires and two werewolves.

The vampires chuckle, probably picking up on my thought.

"Is there nothing we can do about you guys' scent?" Lisa asks, not sounding as angry as I would expect.

Kai smiles and shakes his head as Rosé shrugs.

"Humans love our scent. I don't know what's with you vampires." Rosé says as I recall liking Kai's deodorant once.

"Also, maybe I should come clean and tell you I wasn't really planning on living with another human, sweets. But I also unfortunately don't have the means to have a whole flat all to myself. Just so you know, I was never trying to kill you." Rosé says and I sigh, empathizing with my werewolf friend.

"It's fine. I guess I understand. Kind of." I say as Rosé smiles. That looks more like the Rosé I know.

"So, why did you bring her here? I mean, I did notice that delicious wound, sorry Jennie" she says, casting an apologetic look at me for calling my wound delicious, which is a little weird but I guess food is food. She continues,".... today morning on Jennie's neck and then I avoided crossing paths with her all day because it made me feel like I was hyperventilating and that we were all about to be exposed. But then I thought, what if she has already been turned? But then she wasn't reacting to my, according to vampires, god-awful scent and I couldn't smell anything different about her so I was totally stumped." Rosé says, her words coming out in a flurry, her anxiety evident.

I laugh a little, despite fear bubbling in my chest at the remembrance of what had happened in the woods the other day. How crazy has my life become? Two days ago, my only worries were how I haven't revised up on anything in Econ and now? I look around, absorbing my surroundings consciously.

"I'll help you with that." Taehyung says, referring to the Econ concern and I smile gratefully. "Namjoon attacked her here a few days ago. I came to watch out for the Blacks like I always do to ensure no human is harmed. Thankfully, Lisa was present too, or else it would've been difficult since Kai hadn't been able to make it on that day. We stopped him way before Jennie could have been drained." He says to Rosé as the girl nods, still looking tensed.

"It's not a good idea. Involving a human." Rosé says, looking worried.

"Kai will have to fill you in on that but we have decided she should not be left in the dark for her own safety." Wendy says as Rosé darts her eyes to her fellow werewolf and nods.

I brace myself for the main motive of us visiting the woods. We are going to talk.

"Is Namjoon a part of 'the blacks'? And who even are the blacks?" Lisa asks confusedly as everyone's expression turns grim.
