Chapter 16

I don't go to school the next day. It's...scary. I'm cold-blooded, technically dead, but when Jennie uttered those very words, heavy with raw emotion, my skin started to burn. I'm not used to it, I think. Goodness, promise, or love—I'm used to none of it. That's how I justify the reason for me running as I stare out to the distance, my head feeling all sorts of messed up.

A light crunch makes me break away from my thoughts, electricity coursing through my arm. I look back at the figure and tilt my head.

"You're here?" Seulgi asks, making her way to me as I offer no response, turning my head to the grey tinted trees in front of me.
Another sound of footsteps echoes and I don't look back this time, aware by the pungent scent in the air that it's Kai.

"There." He says from behind me as I don't acknowledge their presence.

The vampire stands right beside me, staring off to where I am, which is definitely pointless, but she still does it. Kai doesn't make a move to stand anywhere close to me, and I mentally thank him, knowing he won't hear me.

"So you and Jennie had a fight, huh?" Seulgi asks, her tone a little teasing.

Their gazes are burning through me as I dig my hands into my pockets. I contemplate an answer but only end up shaking my head lightly, still staring off into the distance.

A piercing howl echoes through the air as we all snap our heads to the direction of the sound.

"That's Rosé." Kai says, not sounding distressed, as my initial alarm wanes. "She's probably still mad about Jisoo's vision yesterday. I should go check up on her." He explains and I habitually nod as he runs, suddenly turning into the distance, his blinding white fur swaying in the direction of the air.

"C'mon, Lisa. Tell me. What's with you and Jennie both acting like zombies today? Halloween sure isn't here yet." Seulgi says, her tone still light as I smile and shake my head. "You know I can read your mind?"

I glare at her, her challenging eyes staying trained on mine.

I groan quietly.

"She told me she loved me." I say shortly as Seulgi stares at me expectantly. "What?"

"Umm...I mean...did you not know that she does?" She asks confusedly as I widen my eyes at her.

"You're saying that as if I can read her mind."

Seulgi laughs, "You're dense, you know that? As cheesy as it is, her eyes tell."

I groan again, frustrated. "I'm not used to people showing affection. Love...love is weird." I say, not seeming to be able to find the right words or make sense of what I'm saying.

"You mean you don't love her?"

"It's not that I don't love her! I do-" I pause, biting my tongue in shock.

I look at Seulgi, my eyes widened at my own words as she raises her eyebrows knowingly and shrugs.

"I...Oh." I murmur to myself, fixing my gaze to a tree again.

I love Jennie.

"You do." Seulgi confirms as I run my hand harshly over my face.

"I should have thought this through. I can't- it's not- shit. She's human." I say, suddenly realizing the weight of the situation.

"I am, and also not, the best person to talk this through." Seulgi says with a hint of a smile in her eyes. "Irene was human, Lisa. Look at us."

"Irene was." I stress as she chuckles.

"You'll work it out." She says with a wave of her hand as I frown at her.

"Do you realize that I don't want Jennie to be a vampire?" I say angrily and she chuckles again.

"Lisa, tell me you would let the girl you love die in front of you when you actually have the ability to grant her life. Selfishly, you would. God knows, I tried to do everything humanly possible to save Irene after she was injured in battle but, pal, I felt like my life was being drained out of me as she took her last breath. I couldn't let her die, I simply couldn't." Seulgi says seriously as I hold her gaze, contemplating. "All that goes through your head when Jennie's around is that you want to protect her and I'm sorry, but realistically, Jennie might have to be turned anytime soon." I clench my jaw, working through the fear I feel hearing Seulgi's words.

"We need to kill the Blacks. All of them." I bite out bitterly, my emotions dying, replaced with cold vengeance.

"There's always more of them, Lisa. Grensaw, Jadiv, Lixiq, Vyanray, Little Brussch, and so many other places have been terrorised by them. We've been through it all, The Pinks. We have lost so many of our other members in battle with the Blacks. The Blacks have lost just as much of their lineage but the Blacks keep turning people and creating more problems. It's really out of our hands now but we just control as much as we can." Seulgi says as I try to figure out what she means.

"Do all turned vampires join the Blacks? What about Pinks?"

"Some do, officially, because their powers blind them or they can't seem to fight their predator instincts. Others are just...out there. Turning humans they come in contact with and spreading vampirism like a virus. Technically, everyone who chooses that kind of path is a Black. We only use these surnames for discernment." Seulgi says, pausing for a while as I wait for her to continue.
"We are definitely lesser in number...Pinks. Or at least that's how it looks. If there are more Pinks out there, I'd be glad. We don't know of them, though, and that is kind of a disadvantage because Pinks have an objective...saving humans from being turned unnecessarily. And that needs teamwork against a messy group like the Blacks who have another upper hand situation because they can work on their own accord, feeding on the humans and simply ruining their life."

I shake my head.

"Why do they turn the humans? Doesn't that mean slowly they will have no more food?"

"Yes. We want to stop that, too, alongside the factor that it's just so unethical to destroy a human's life like that. Pinks feed on human blood as well, but in moderation, so that is a concern too. Not having blood of the main source for too long weakens us. I had to live without a taste of blood from humans for so long because there were no blood banks back then. Now we share three bags that Taehyung brings in every month." Seulgi says with a small smile as I nod in understanding.

"How did you live that long without human blood?" I ask, recalling Irene and Seulgi's story, marking that it might have been a matter of at least 200 years ago.

"Well, now you know why I was a nurse." Seulgi says with an uneasy chuckle as I burst out laughing, what she said clicking in my brain. Seulgi looks embarassed and she waves her hand begrudgingly in the air, trying to dismiss the arisen topic. "Rewind to the very beginning, I came to tell you to dress up fancy."

"Dress up? Why?" I ask confusedly as she smirks at me.

"We got a party to crash."

a/n: I have no idea if the places I made up are real but they sound so fictitious and...I don't know, rustic? No idea 'bout y'all but they definitely sound weird to me LMFAO.
