The final bell rung and the gym scattered. I stood and stretched. “The weekend has finally arrived. You and your sister sure did choose a good time to join the school.”

“Why do you say that?” Aeoie asked as she looked up at me.

“Vacation. Get the rest of the week off, come back Tuesday. Personally, I don’t know why they had you come today, why not next week.”

“Well, they said there was something happening, and we should just wait until next week to come. But, Xenny insisted we’d come today.”

I offered her my hand and helped her to her feet. It’s funny, Xenilla said to come today, yet, she isn’t here. We walked down the steps and into the hallway. From the side, I had a glance of almost half of the school by the entrance doors, in more of a group, than a transaction. “I wonder what’s going on over there.” Aeoie said as she pointed.

I looked over. “It’s probably a fight or something. I wouldn’t be surprised. Do you have a bus you catch home? If so, you should run to your locker. They sometime take off five minutes early.”

Aeoie stopped for a moment and leaned on the wall. “I get a ride, and I don’t have a locker yet. Do you catch the bus?”

“Nah. I have a car. But I work before I go home. So, I think I’m just going to wait here until the group disappears a bit. But you have a ride, don’t you think they might be out there already?”

She stood quite for a moment, looking at the clock on the wall and again toward the front door. “I think… you might be right. I guess I better get going.”

As she started to walk away, an uncontrollable force in me had taken over, as I reached forward and grab her hand.

She stopped and looked back at me with a confused face. “I’ll … walk out with you, just let me go to my locker….”

She turned around and smiled a bit before nodding, and following me to my locker.

The walk was in silence. Awkward silence. I wanted to say something, but I couldn’t. Not after what I just did. I looked down at her and attempted to say something. Only to look back up, and continue to walk.

I opened my locker, and threw my books into it, grabbing my keys from under my The Devil Wears Prada poster on the way out. I wrapped my ear buds around my neck and closed the locker door. “Well, lets go.”

As we walked down the hall, I noticed Dale in the now small group. “What’s going on?” I asked him.

“Oh, I don’t know, was about to push my way through and try to see. You going to work?”
