"Taking up space is surprisingly easy to do, no wonder you enjoy doing it so much." He replied quite amused at how quickly he responded. He seemed less angry today, everyone did. Like there had been a secret meeting I wasn't invited to.
She looks at Luke with a pouting face pointing in disbelief. He shrugs his shoulders "You did it to yourself Casey Cakes." He shoves his hands in his pockets and smirks at me and Isaiah. "You two seem to be hitting it off nicely, my roommate isn't giving you a hard time is he?" He smiles at me.
I look at Isaiah he looks embarrassed "Oh, come on man chill out"
Bashful? That might be the word.
" Oh, You'll are Roommates? No wonder everyone seems to be in a better mood" I smiled and leaned my elbow on the counter allowing my chin to rest on my fist. "So your the peace keeper huh Luke?" I say looking at him like he's the culprit. He looks at me confidently with a grin on his face, "Peace keeper? Pshhh Peace Keepers ain't got sh*t on me, I'm like the f*ckin Avatar" he looked smug. "Talked to him last night, talked to her this afternoon, keeping the peace its what I do."
I give him his props. The other two have checked out of the conversation by now, We all grab a cup of coffee and sit at the bar. Lukes twin pulls him over to the back of the cafe, They seem to be talking about something serious. Cas sits next to me and shows me the photos she took today of Luke skateboarding and all the selfies they took together. I pick my favorite ones and sip slowly on my drink.
Isaiah is on his laptop typing an essay of sorts, listening to music thru his AirPods. I decide to leave him be, I pull out my book from my bag and begin to read it. Casey looks down from her phone and says "Is that? -- is that my fathers book?" she comes close to the book reading the front of it "Yeah! it is!" I beam delighted that I might get a chance to talk her about her father.
But her eyes loomed low, she looked upset, disgusted? I couldn't figure it out. "Oh... I thought so. What a lazy old oaf..." She whispered under her breath then goes back to her phone. "Huh? What do you mean? Did something happen" I look at her and put the book down. "He was your father, He loves his family, you guys didn't get along."
She gives me a sideways glance and stops texting for a moment. "No, he was lazy and never spent time with the family he had, he was a horrible father and I wish people would stop bringing him up all the time." She gave a hmph like a matter of fact.
But didn't she bring up the conversation?
"No he wasn't. He was a great man and someone I respect deeply." I heard a low grumble behind me, I turn around to find Isaiah with his headphones off and face turned away from his laptop, giving Casey his full attention. She kept scrolling on her phone trying to ignore him but scoffed "Of course you would think that, I knew nothing and you still know nothing. He sucked as a father." She said going back to her phone trying to look for something more interesting . "Your so un-grateful I can't believe you would--" He started to loom over me to get close enough to her.
"HEY you guys! Hope you didn't miss me while I was gone." Luke jumps in the conversation, from behind a now standing Isaiah, wrapping a forgiving arm around his shoulder. "Whats going on over here?" He makes a stupid grin I recognize his tactics and do nothing but nod in approval. Isaiah slumps down in his seat and says "Nothing really important." Casey looks up from her phone as if the conversation finally interests her "Nothing important at all actually" She beams at Luke.
"Well good! because I have something far more interesting to show you." He looks at all of us with wonder in his eyes, we were obviously confused. I raise the first question "What are you talking about hippie?" I lift a brow in suspicion. "Yeah whats going on?" Isaiah raises the second question. He's still huffing about the conversation with Casey.
Luke shakes his shoulders with both hands "Oh come on grumpy I promise it'll be fun. Just meet me and Casey back here tonight at 11pm, when the shop is about to close, I have the night shift always sooooo." He looks around in anticipation. "Well, how about it?"
I turn my head to look at Isaiah, he looks at me. I look back at Luke. "Sure. I'll come." I hear Isaiah say.
"That a boy! That's what I like to hear." He shakes his shoulders and hangs off of him. Luke then looks at me for an answer, I look around at all of them and shrug. "Alright, I'm coming." Casey jumps on me and hangs off my shoulders like Luke is doing to Isaiah. "YAHOO!! This is gonna be fun I just know it!" I hear her say.
Me and Isaiah exchange looks and laugh, then we all were laughing. By then end we agreed on a time, exchanged goodbyes and went out separate ways in hopes of regrouping later again that same night.
...
"He calls it the pool house. Not like that's the name I'd use." Lukes brother, Liam, says to me. I had just walked up to the now closed Coffee Shop when I saw him outside smoking a joint. I asked him what he has planned for us, not like I assumed he would know.
"Pool House? what is it like a bunch of pools in one building?" I asked chuckling at the thought. "No its more like --" Liam began but was interrupted by Luke coming out the front door to greet me. "Hey Dre! Come on in, were almost done cleaning up for the night." He gives Liam a look then me.
"What were you guys talking about?" his face looks dumbfounded, his twin brother then throws his roach on the ground steps on it and pats his brother on the shoulder while walking past him. "Nothing Lu, lets get inside and finish up so you can have some fun." He grins and agrees.
As I start heading inside I hear someone behind me and turn around. There he is, Isaiah is jogging to catch the door before I close it. I smile at him holding it out "Always the behind huh?" I tease. I lean on the door to step out of his way, but he hold onto the door looking down into my eyes "I can stand being second place if that makes your first." He says to me.
He's to close for me not to stare, too cute for me not to wonder, too sweet for me to stay silent. I grin like an idiot, blush like a clown and completely melt at the sight of his smile. He's wearing his hair out, his curls fall right in front of his eyes the dark night sky behind him is creating a halo behind his head.
Unable to make the first move, I slowly back into the store covering my face to cool down the blood rushing to my cheeks. I know what he wants, but it's not something I'm willing to offer.
"Come on you guys!" we heard from inside and rushed in to find out what lays wait for us.
