BEEP
"I've been able to get some information you might find useful," Megumi spoke rather quietly on the other side of the line. The distant sounds of cars and urban chatter occupied the background, meaning he was probably outdoors. "Particularly a lead on the other two major criminal organizations. In August, the Zen'ins had some paintings stolen from them by a previously unknown third party in an exchange with a different organization, but it was recently returned as collateral after a joint shipment of weaponry was burnt down prematurely. The Zen'ins have been trying to contact the leader of the accused crime syndicate to discuss it, but a connection between the two groups was never made. I tried to pry into the identity of the accused, but it seems not even the Zen'ins know. He does not match the description of anyone currently recorded in the state of New York, so they're speculating he's international. Maybe the other criminal group knows more... from what I heard from the Zen'ins, the other group does undercover drug exchanges across some cover establishments. Maybe you'll have better luck looking into that. Nonetheless, with the atypical nature of the group in question I wouldn't be surprised if they're the ones who have Y/n. I'll continue looking on my end, but I'm not sure how much I'll be able to learn from here on out. Talk to you soon, bye."

Wiping his eyes, the white haired male lifted his head from his table. How long was he out for? It doesn't matter, nothing matters anymore. Nonetheless, it seemed Megumi hadn't been informed yet of the recent development. After all, the young detective thought there was a point to call. He should break the news sooner than later.
At the end of the day, it was all unsettling even for him. Though everything seemed conclusive, his detective intuition said otherwise. The fact Megumi called with new information, the fact there was something bothering him he couldn't place a finger on. He knew you wouldn't have gone down without a fight, so could you have hidden a clue on your body with the identity of the culprit?
Is that why they burned you instead of the usual mutilation?
He... he didn't feel comfortable speculating on that thought any further. If you suffered because you were trying to help him out, it would only make him feel worse.
At the chilling thought, the detective felt a cool breeze drift down his spine. Crossing his arms to warm up, it seemed the first snowfall of the year was brushing against his office window. It seemed body heat alone wouldn't be enough to pull through the cold this time.
Making his way out of the office, the tired detective entered the break room. Though he tried to minimize his presence, a few worried glances looked his way. He ignored them. Grabbing a coffee pod, the detective slid it into the machine before placing his mug under the nozzle. At a press of a button, the machine poured the steaming liquid into his cup.
His gaze wandered into the confines of his beverage, met with his own reflection. His eyes were red, bagged from his exhaustion. His hair was a mess, his collar unbuttoned. What once was a man who only knew the taste of perfection was now a man a stranger to its flavour.
