“ Rab vi khel hai khele,
Roz lagave mele
Kainda kuch na badla
Jooth bole har velle. ”

7 October 1951.

" Cācā, kō'ī ciṭhī rūpa hai? ( Is there any letter from Lahore? ) Arheer asked the post man.

" Maiṁ tuhānū lakha vāra dasa cukā hāṁ, lāhaura tōṁ kō'ī ciṭhī nahīṁ hai. ( I have told you lakhs of time, there is no letter from Lahore.) " The post man said, frustrated.

Arheer walked paced in his room, his mind was engulfed in a fear, fear of loosing her.

These sudden erupted feelings made him more anxious.

" Pūtr, kī hō'i'ā? ( Child, what happened? ) Jaspreet asked.

" Māṁ, maiṁ citata mahisūsa kara rihā hāṁ. Kī ā'iśā uthē ṭhīka rahēgī? ( Mother, I am feeling anxious. Will Ayesha be fine there? ) " He asked.

" Pūtr, Śānta hō jā'u, uha uthē ṭhīka hō jāvēgī. ( Child, calm down. She'll be fine there. ) " She tried to convince him.

Lahore,
10 October 1951.

" Appi, hum... Hum ab mehfooz toh hai na? " Falak asked fisting Ayesha's kurti.

" Haan Falak. Fikr mat karo. Aur, agar hume kuch ho gaya toh kisi tarah Arheer ko yeh baat bata dena ki ab hum humesha ke liye uske ho gaye hai. " She said.

" Appi, hum dono ko kuch bhi nahi hoga. " Falak said.

" Haan. Hume kuch nahi hoga. " She said.

They were in their hide out, considering it as a safe place, before the arrival of storm.

" Falak beta, dange ab humare moholle ki taraf mud rahe hai. Humara yeh ghar chodne ka waqt aa gaya hai. Chalo apna samaan bhar lo." Her aunt said.

" Ji khala. " Both girls nodded and collected their stuff.

" Chal—" Ayesha's whisper stop as they noticed the corpses of their relatives lying in the house.

" Khala? " Falak whispered.

" Falak, bhaago. Uss piche waale darwaaze se agar pohoch sako toh Chandigarh pohocho. Wahan tum mehfooz rahogi. Humari kasam. Jaao" Ayesha pushed her out, the very next moment three men surrounded her, dragging her by her hair.
