Christine had waited for him for hours. She'd paced for a good fifteen minutes after he'd left, but she'd forced herself to calm down for the sake of their babies.
She couldn't allow herself to become too worked up over this or else she risked potentially miscarrying. She knew that Erik would never forgive her if she lost them despite what he claimed. This is what they'd always wanted, after all. A family to call their own.
Well, before they'd realized what a strain this was going to eventually have on her. But even so she still wanted it desperately. She could only hope that he still wanted it as well. She'd thought he had but now she couldn't be entirely sure.
To distract herself, she'd made lunch for herself. If someone told her that she'd be putting chocolate spread and m&ms on a pizza crust, she'd call them crazy. But that had been before. Cravings were apparently a hell of a thing. She could only hope that they didn't get much weirder than that.
She added strawberries and banana slices in an attempt to make it a little healthier before she tossed it in the oven for a few minutes. She took it out and munched on it while watching one of her favorite shows. Thankfully, it had been a small pizza crust or she'd probably be dealing with a stomach ache on top of everything else.
By the time that dinner rolled around, he was still gone. It was making her more than a little anxious so she focused her attention else where. Such on making one of his favorite dishes. It was rather difficult to cook so it was a good distraction.
Unfortunately, he still hadn't returned by the time she finished with dinner. She nibbled at her own, ignoring her lack of appetite. When the rest of the food cooled, she placed it in the refrigerator so that he would have something to eat when he came back.
She curled up on the couch, pulling her legs up slightly and wrapping her arms around the small bump on her stomach. She felt oddly empty despite knowing that he'd come back. He'd told her he would and he'd never lied about something like that before. But this situation was different. So different.
Maybe this was another thing that had changed or maybe he nwt someone that had changed his mind for him. Someone that could carry his children without any issues. Someone younger, someone less clingy.
Before she could spiral too far, there was a knock at the door. It sounded too heavy to be Erik's usual light knocks and he wouldn't have to knock anyways. He had the key and he owned the house. He could come in whenever he wanted. Had something happened? She jumped up to her feet and hurried over, yanking it open.
Her heart sank at the sight before her. Erik looked as if he'd been beaten to hell and back and he smelled like a brewery. He was hanging off of Nadir. She knew what he was going to say before he even said it. Erik had told her himself that he didn't drink that often because it made his temper worse. Apparently today had been a major exception to that rule.
"... I'm sorry, Christine. I just recently found him. I'll get him up to bed and on his side... I'm sure he'll explain himself tomorrow." Nadir assured weakly, trying to smile at her. She simply nodded and moved aside so that he could situate her most likely unconscious husband through the door and up the stairs.
Christine waited for Nadir to leave before she joined her husband upstairs. She changed into her night clothes and slid in bed behind him, wrapping her arms around him tightly.
She nuzzled her head between his shoulder blades and clenched her eyes shut. She sincerely hoped that all he did was get into a fight. She wouldn't know what to do with herself if it was a woman that started the fight or something along those lines.
Erik felt like complete and utter shit as he came to. He ached all over and it made him wonder what the hell he'd done last night. He peeled his eyes open with just a bit of effort and immediately groaned, covering them. It was too damn bright in the room. Why had Christine opened the curtains this early? Was she trying to torture him? He rolled over slightly and reached behind him.
He frowned when his hand hit the empty sheets. They were cool so clearly she'd been out of bed for awhile. He forced himself up and out of the bed with a low groan. His stomach churned and he swallowed thickly as he headed downstairs.
The smell of nothing but bacon and grease filled his nostrils as he neared the kitchen. This sent him careening back up the stairs so that he could empty his stomach.
He barely noticed it when Christine entered the room and rubbed his back, her small hand moving in tiny circles. He gasped as he finished, sitting up. He wiped his mouth on the back of his hand, jumping slightly when a glass of water was suddenly in front of him.
"Small sips, Erik. Though I personally think you deserve to puke your guts up again." Christine murmured in a sickly sweet tone. Well, if that wasn't the most vindictive thing he'd ever heard her say, he wasn't sure what was. He took the cup from her nevertheless and used the first sip to rinse his mouth out. He sipped a few more times before sitting the glass on the bathroom sink.
"Darling...please. I already regret whatever I did last night. I don't need you being a bitch on top of it, yeah? Hangovers are already a bitch without it." Erik grunted, pushing himself to his feet. He felt bad as soon as he referred to her that way, but she wasn't giving him much leeway. Couldn't she cut him some slack and wait until he didn't feel like death warmed over any more?
Christine looked offended for a moment before she shrugged. He arched an eyebrow, waiting to see what she was going to say. He sincerely hoped that she didn't try and argue too much.
"Well, I needed you yesterday but you were too busy getting drunk and fighting to be with me. I suppose we can't all get what we want." Christine snapped and stormed downstairs, hand on her stomach.
Fuck. He almost wished that he had insisted on being taken anywhere but home.
