Today is my first day of high school. I'm waiting near the back of the line to board the bus when I see something strange.
Behind me, there is a girl with long black hair. She is crouched down at eye level with a stray cat.
"Nya~"
What? Is she trying to communicate with the cat?
As if sensing my stare, she turns her head towards me and glares at me, but I don't look away. "Forget what you saw just meow."
Just meow? Does she mean just now? Are those cat ears on her head real? Are catgirls finally a thing? Woah... Yay.
Wait... Have I been living under a rock this whole time? I mean, I guess I have, quite literally, as a matter of fact.
"How can I forget something so strange?"
"Mumumu!" She growls like a cat.

We board the bus, so I close my eyes, trying to get some sleep, but it's impossible because an office lady and a blonde girl with the fakest smile I have ever seen are arguing with a blond boy about his seat.
Well, whatever. I'll just think of the catgirl this morning, who also happens to be seated directly to my left, trying to read a book.
"Nya?" Her cat ears per up as she senses my stare again and glares at me.
"Crime and Punishment, huh. It's a good book."
"Stop staring before I claw your eyes out." Her ears droop dangerously. I know this as the sign of danger, and she will pounce if her eyes dilate, so I turn my head away.

We arrive and offload at the school campus.
"So this is where I'll be spending my youth, huh. It also seems like I'm similar to those anime protagonists that think out loud."
"Wait! Why were you staring at meow before, nya?" The girl from before approaches me.
"Because I thought you look and behave very cutely."
"Nya?! W-Whatever. It would be a waste of meow time to talk to you, nya. Sayonyara."
Her way of speaking is killing me.

"We meet again," After school, I make a stop at the convenience store, only to see her in a corner of the store, so I ended up greeting her.
"What do you want meow (now)?"
"What is your name?"
"..."
"We will sit next to each other in class for the next three years of high school. The least you could do is tell me your name."
