Suzune POV
February 14th, also known as Saint Valentine's Day. The holiday was first introduced to Japan in 1936 by a Russian confectionery and cake company named Morozoff Ltd.
It is said that the custom where only women give men chocolates on this day may have been a misinterpreted translation.
For a decade and a half, the holiday remained unpopular, but it wasn't after the Second World War, specifically sometime in the 50's and 60's that Valentine's Day became a national trend.
That's the brief history of this supposedly sacred day.
Personally, I think Valentine's Day is great, but I also think the way it's celebrated is, to put it simply, a stupid and unnecessary need to make all males feel included. I feel that girls should only give chocolates to our crushes, not all our male acquaintances, because when we're going around giving it to everyone, it makes them, particularly teenage boys, ascend to cloud nine with their hormones on full display in hopes that someone notices them.
This is partly because some of these boys are so desperate for some female attention that it disgusts me, but also because the very act of us girls giving chocolate to someone we do not have romantic feelings for is one of the fakest things I have ever seen.
In short, the practice of obligatory chocolate and anyone who does it is, to put it bluntly, full of it, obviously not including such exchanges between family members.
But money is money, and companies that make chocolates, flowers, and other romantic gifts need something to fill their insatiable thirst for more.
If it were made a law that only honmei chocolates can be given and not obligatory ones with the exception of family members, then more men would be encouraged to profess their love for their crushes since they wouldn't want to be left out seeing their friends get together and start dating. The same thing can be said for women on White Day.
I'm the first one to arrive to class as usual. I observe as people begin filling the room, and I watch as the girls begin handing chocolates to the guys, who are way too happy.
They then begin fawning over their precious Hirata-kun.
"Myyyyyy preeeeeecccciooouuusss~" Mii-chan growls like Golem while possessively holding Hirata-kun's arm and rubbing her face on it.
Hirata-kun proceeds to laugh off her advances and be the "nice guy" for everyone. This is why I dislike him. He can't make a choice, instead using the likes of Karuizawa-san to ward off the hoes. I just wish he would allow himself to feel and express romantic feelings towards one girl, such as Mii-chan.
Some of these boys are actually decent people.
"Yukimu~! Miyacchi~! These are for you," Hasebe-san hands said two boys some chocolates.
"I made some, too..." Sakura-san shyly hands them over.
I only say that those two boys are alright in my book because they hang out with-
My thoughts are disrupted when I sense someone staring at me.
Plenty of these Class D boys are perverts, especially the idiots that hang out with Sudou-kun, the likes of which I do my utmost to avoid.
They're looking around so desperately, having not received any chocolate.
Why is Sudou-kun staring at me so much?
I instinctively hold my bag closer, knowing the contents inside of which contain two boxes of chocolates.
One box is for nii-sama. As I said, obligatory chocolate should not be given out to anyone except for family members who aren't lovers.
