• "The Lion King" •

This scene contains the song "Can You Feel the Love Tonight", from the Walt Disney animated film "The Lion King" (1994). In the situation I recreated, we find ourselves during the events of Pokémon episode n. 15, XY Kalos Quest series, "A Fork in the Road? A Parting of the Ways!": Jessie has just returned to James and Meowth right after leaving Doctor White, and she plans to apologize to her friends.

Jessie walked briskly through the sparse trees of that unfamiliar territory. She had just discovered that Doctor White, the man who had saved her from drowning in the river and whom she seemed to have fallen in love with, had just revealed his true feelings to a certain person, and that person was not her.

However, she didn't feel desperate at all, nor heartbroken: indeed, as she moved away from the Doctor's house, she felt that sense of lightness and relief grow more and more in her, just like when someone gets rid of a common worry, even if Jessie couldn't figure out why. She was completely serene, not even in the least saddened, yet she had been rejected so many times, and each time she felt horribly torn by pain. She decided not to think about it anymore, as she ran through the trees to find her true friends, James and Meowth, closely followed a little further back by her Wobbuffet.

Meanwhile, far away in the trees, the other two remaining members of Team Rocket were tidying up their belongings. "What?! You are planning ta' move?! And leave Jessie here all alone?" Meowth yelled as James, head down, stuffed the last few items into their camping bags and began loading them into the balloon.

"Yes. After all, Jessie is not alone. There's that Doctor, now..." He tightened the laces of his bag even more, letting out a soft, shaking sigh. "I just hope that guy will give her everything she wants and that he treats her like the person she deserves..."

Meowth continued to observe his lavender-haired teammate, both of them somewhat demoralized: they should never have overheard the conversation between Jessie and the twerps, and her choice of wanting to leave Team Rocket to stay and live with Doctor White. Now that everything was ready, they could leave in their hot-air balloon to a new region, far, far away from there.

Suddenly, they heard a distant voice shouting a name: "James!" Meowth's cat ears pricked up as he recognized the voice, but his still-depressed friend didn't seem to hear anything. "James! Meowth! It's me! I'm back!" This time, the call was much closer than the previous one, as an indistinct figure with long magenta hair made her way through the shrubs.

James turned, incredulous and almost wary, but all doubts dissipated when they saw Jessie's slender silhouette appear right in front of their eyes, followed by an excited and frisky Wobbuffet. The young woman wasn't wearing her Team Rocket uniform, nor her usual makeup, but her teammates had no doubts: Jessie was right in front of them, breathing heavily, her hair molded into its usual arched shape, her blue eyes like two sapphires full of happiness.

"James..." she said simply, as if she was greeting him after a normal day of work. The young man continued to look at her more and more amazed, while the emotion made the words come out of his mouth: "Jess... You... You came back to us...? For real?"

"Of course James, I could never have abandoned my best friends," she replied, smiling, spreading her arms and taking a few steps forward. James didn't need to be told twice and, along with Meowth, they both flung themselves into a group hug towards their teammate."We thought youse would never come back!" Meowth cried, a little touched, while James held Jessie tighter and tighter in his arms, extremely relieved to be able to see her again.

"We saw you with that Doctor White there, at his house, and we thought you would have wanted to stay there forever..." he said, triggering a slight sense of guilt in Jessie's heart.
