This scene contains the songs "The Bells of Notre-Dame" and "Heaven's Light (reprise)", from the Walt Disney animated film "The Hunchback of Notre-Dame" (1996). In the situation I recreated, we find ourselves during the events of Pokémon episode number 13, Pokémon Chronicles series, "Training Daze". Can a poor and (almost) innocent creature, considered by all to be a freak of nature, find true friends to rely on?

All creatures of the world are important and special. Each one of them is unique, with its strengths and weaknesses, and we need to appreciate the other by looking not so much at their physical appearance, but by looking closely into their heart.

Morning in Kanto, the region awakes~
with its many inhabitants.~
Humans around with their fellow friends~
are all there, in Kanto's towns.~
In Vermillion, Saffron and Cerulean,~
from Viridian to Pallet Town...~
And some say the soul of the place's~
the life of their 'mon...~
Their beloved, friendly Pokémon.~

Today we try to follow these tips, but unfortunately, it has not always been the case. Many miserable creatures, innocent (or at least in part), have been discriminated and mistreated, in all worlds, and of one in particular it has now been decided to talk about. A small creature among the many that populate his world, a lonely Pokémon, despised, but which in the end has found a priceless treasure: friendship.

Everyone always cared lots for their 'mon,~
every city, and every town.~

But not all are still loved in this world,~
like some scared, poor Pokémon.~

Some offended, kidnapped or abandoned,~
in this world with just little mercy.~
And we'll tell you about a poor 'mon~
that has been referred to...~
A real freak of nature.~

Our story starts with this Pokémon named Meowth.~
A poor cat that's forced to be a thief just to live.~
«Here's how it all began...»

*****

A Pokémon was walking down the dark streets of a city. He had feline features, with a curled brown-tipped tail, thick and wild fur, piercing blue eyes, and two pairs of whiskers that quivered with every movement.

The Scratch Cat Pokémon, known simply as Meowth, turned the corner of a narrow alley and entered it. It was the quickest way to get back into the academy without being seen. Luckily he didn't come across any of those always angry humans who, every time they noticed him, threw whatever object they had at hand at him. Being a stray was hard enough, and his "job" as a thief didn't help much.

Actually, Meowth was not a real recruit. He had never been admitted to any training test. One day, believing he was giving up his life as a wanderer forever, he asked to join a criminal organization in Kanto, called Team Rocket, introduced himself to the boss Giovanni and applied for admission. He believed he would have been taken immediately and willingly, thanks to his skills in walking and speaking like a human-being (all learned to impress a female cat he loved, who had rejected him, and so he found himself there).

But, unfortunately, fate still had some misfortunes to face for poor Meowth. Once again considered a "freak of nature", he was confined and hidden into the Team's apprenticeship academy, because he was deemed useless for the organization's purposes. Giovanni didn't want anything to do with a rough and insolent Meowth, his Persian was already perfect as his counterpart. The competition between Meowth and all the Persians he met was historical at that point, and for this reason he just couldn't bear the constant presence of that sly big cat.
