Fighting

Lunch zips past me but my daydreams don't.

They dance around and spark feelings I never knew I had, making me think far into the future.

Way too far.

Soon, school is over and I'm in Rei's car, picking up a frappuccino from Starbucks and munching on cookies.

Rei does the same thing, her hands coming off the wheel time-to-time to ask for the occasional snack.

"So," she starts between mouthfuls. "What was that about you and lil blonde pretty boy?"

"He's not little. I'm pretty sure he's taller than you."

One of my little known talents is changing the subject, but it's different with Rei.

She can see right through my lies.

Rei raises a delicate eyebrow, and my stomach lurches in my throat as I realize I got caught in my own fib.

"Girl," she chuckles and shakes her head. "I know what you're doing."

I roll my eyes and give in to her curiosity.

"Well," I say. "I might have a little crush on him. And he might like me back. And we might get married. And-"

"I get it," Rei interrupts.

I'm a bit taken aback by her serious voice and narrowed eyes.

"Rei what-"

"You were rambling. Just because he looks at you doesn't mean he likes you."

What is going on with her?

It's just a crush, and she's usually really outgoing and excited when it comes to this stuff.

My eyes narrow in suspicion as I realize the thought that's been itching at the back of my brain.

"I never told you he was staring at me," I don't try to hide the anger in my tone when I say this.

"I was watching it happen, Eunbi."

She sounds even more frustrated than before.

"Look," I sigh. "I don't know what's going on with you but you have no—"

Rei interrupts me again.

"We're at your house."

I make an audible huff and open the car door, making sure to slam it as loud as possible as I march towards my door.

When she isn't looking, I sneak a look at her and see her looking straight ahead.

No emotion, nothing.

Rei can do a lot of things to me, but this crush is too strong for her to break.
