"I'm pregnant, Jay," "We're going to have a baby," "Marry me,"

With Christmas morning now engraved in both the minds and hearts of Jay and Violet as one of their sweetest, if not the sweetest so far, memory of them, this day is gone as quickly as it came, finally giving its place to the New Year's Eve, something that, of course, no one has time to understand, all too devoted to the events in their life, a day that seems to last just as long. Specifically, the day finds them all, the young couple, the Intelligence unit, Will with a few other people from the hospital, and some of Adam's childhood friends along with his sister and nephew at the officer's house, all of them were looking forward to the party from the very beginning of the holiday. Under the dim light, between the balloons that Kim brought without being able to resist, and near the table that is filled with meals everyone is scattered around the house divided into small groups as they talk, while music fills the big living room and probably the whole house as Adam does not hesitate to increase the volume of the speakers whenever Kevin does not look, wanting to annoy him since he has put himself in charge of the songs. The TV is open with a show playing in the background and even though it doesn't sound, the movements of the show hosts prepare them for the coming of the countdown, while finally the laughter of everyone and the voices of some children running are what complete their little fuss.

"Are they like this at work too?" Will suddenly asks Jay as they stand next to the lit fireplace, both wearing one of their formal shirts, laughing as they watch Kevin who is trying to hit Adam, clearly indignant with his teasing.

"Pretty much, yeah," the detective replies while chuckling as various moments of these two at the bullpen appear in his mind.

"Man, I don't know how Voight deals with them," the doctor observes with a laugh, and his brother nods while looking around them, his gaze moves a few inches further away ending up on Violet.

Everything else he was about to comment is now completely forgotten. The girl stands between Hailey and Kim laughing out loud with what the brunette has told them a few seconds ago, her whole face shines making his heart flip. Her hair falls straight on her shoulders, freshly cut after her recent visit to the salon, while the brown color seems to prevail with the edges being the only purple hair, while underneath them the thin straps of her dress emerge with the entire fitting black dress following. It's the same dress she wore for the first time when they moved into their house, the one in which she danced slowly with him among the still full boxes, happy enough to care about them, as well as the one that helped her to erase something from her now finished list.

"You are drooling", Will's voice pulls him out from his thoughts as he cannot hold back the comment to himself, while a characteristic Halstead chuckle escapes from his lips as soon as he sees his brother rolling his eyes. Red color, however, spreads on his cheeks, reaching up to his ears.

"I still can't believe you finally asked her to marry you," he says again, taking advantage of the fact that the two of them are alone, while immediately his heart beats faster because of the pride he feels, while the gaze of both now falls on the diamond ring that exists on the girl's finger.

"Yeah, I can't believe it either" the detective agrees, not knowing if he's only referring to their engagement or their baby hiding behind her still flat belly.

And while their common decision not to announce it to anyone before their first ultrasound resonates in his ears, he is in a hurry to speak again in order not to get caught.

"I honestly don't know which reaction was the best. Yours or her mother's," he comments, referring both to Gemma's screams through the video call when she heard the news and to the doctor's celebration, his warm embrace, and of course his comment about how happy he is that Violet now belongs officially to their family.
